Club Colours

Recommended Posts

The FIFA Laws state ...

• The two teams must wear colours that distinguish them from each other

and also the referee and the assistant referees

• Each goalkeeper must wear colours that distinguish him from the other

players, the referee and the assistant referees

But many teams wear black shorts and socks. The club colours are presumably approved by the CCL with the knowledge that these will clash with the match offocials who are only allowed to wear black (white trim optional).

Just interested to know if this is an issue to players at all.

Would also be interested to know why these colours are approved knowing that they will clash

According to the FA / FIFA / IFAB, only the officials are blind and cannot tell the difference between two goalkeepers or between themselves and the goalkeepers.

I have played for many teams that have had black shorts and socks and against many teams that do, and I have never seen a player pass the ball to a referee or assistant thinking it was one of their own players.

TC - I can tell the difference between the goalkeeper and myself. He is in the penalty area and I am in the centre circle.

Am asking the question because the point was raised by a player to me so wanted to know if it was a problem to other players

Not a dig at you FM, a dig at the FA et al who won't let me or other goalies wear a black shirt because the FA think that officials cannot tell the difference between themselves and the goalie when obviously they can. Fair point about the shorts and socks but I think we have coped well enough for over 100 years.

I think the way kits are manufactured now, referees should have 3 different colour shirts. No reason why they cannot be provided by the league. The Assistant may or may not need them.

The point was raised by me everyone.

Played against Hanworth on my 1st game back from my ban a few weeks ago only for the game to be postponed at half time due to the weather.

I raised this point because before the game kicked off i made a complaint/observation that the referee's shorts and socks were the exact same as hanworth and that I felt it would be common sense for either the ref or Hanworth change socks or shorts to ditinguish between who is who.

I know many of you will say the colours of the shirts are different but you dont always get time to look up when controlling a ball (especially on most ccl pitches), so quite often all you see is the oppositions lowere half. No of course i wouldnt pass to the opposition (not on purpose anyway) but if i see black socks and shorts close by I may think that it is a hanworth player and feel under pressure to pass the ball when not needed. I felt it would be good for all for either the ref or hanworth change either the shorts or socks!

Keep your thoughts coming in.....

Nearly fell out my high chair, the league pay for the Refs shirts.Refs at this level must wear Black, then the LEAGUE APPROVE Black Shirts with Yellow trim, that many clubs complained about. Most players at this level cannot pass to their team mates, let alone the Ref.Anyway everyone knows the REFS ARE MINTED.

Here is one for you. On Sat we had a ref that was being assessed. He is a great ref and again on Sat the ref and his officials were excellent. However one point to clarify.... Some players these days wear white short socks over their long coloured socks. The ref asked his assisstant to come in and ask bot sides to remove them ( I dont know why they do it anyway....must be a fashion thing ) So both sides did. However during the warm up our opposition seemed to have put the white socks back on... I laughed and said to an assisstant, these youngsters, as soon as you turn your back......And he replied no its ok as it is white tape?

Now what is the difference and is there a ruling please....

Tommy Tydeman is on a 'sine die' suspension as of 21/02/2011.

Guildford still have him listed on their web site...

"Tommy Tydeman

Committed defender who has Ryman experience at former clubs Carshalton Athletic and Croydon Athletic. Has quickly become popular at City for his battling qualities."

Perhaps not the right sort of battling qualities.

Another funny one with clothing. Early season at Colliers on a Wednesday when it was absolutely chucking it down all day. Misty and wet all night. Our captain stops the referee to say that our lads are finding it hard to tell him apart from CWU players, as their blue/black clashed. Quite why this was a problem is irrelevant. Referee stops the game and acknowledges what was said, then trots off to the changing room to get another top to wear, so we assume he has another colour. We all wait in the rain for him to emerge a few minutes later in a perfectly clean and ironed new one - but in black again! Blows his whistle and game starts again - still chucking it down and within a minute or so we are back to square one. It just made us all laugh at the time!

Think that in the event of a club genuinely having trouble telling a club shirt apart from a referees shirt the sensible thing would be for the referee to wear a coloured shirt if one was available.

Common sense should prevail over laws/rules

MEW IF WHAT YOU SAY IS CORRECT, THATS DISGUSTING TO HAVE A PLAYER WHO GUILDFORD SAY IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THEIR CLUB ANYMORE AFTER HIS ''ALLEDGED'' ATTACK, HE SHOULD BE WIPED OFF THE GUILDFORD WEBSITE.

GUILDFORD SWEENEY CAN YOU GET YOUR CLUB TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND GET RID OF THE COWARD FROM YOUR WEBSITE ? THIS IS TAKING THE P*SS.... !

IF THE REF DIDN'T HAVE A DIFFERENT COLOURED SHIRT, COULD HE NOT WEAR A YELLOW BIB FOR INSTRANCE ?
