How was it for you today ?

Anyone care/dare to give an unexpunged 'rough guide' to Margate's performance today ?

Down next weekend to form my own conclusions, although as per my luck this season, upon arrival no doubt in the abscence of bad weather, the game will be postponed due to a plague of locusts swooping in over margate.

The hornchurch forum suggests that they were the more dominant side, but its the result that matters just trhe same ,and relatively content with a point today

I'd say Hornchurch did have have the edge with less punts of the ball up field but on reflection neither teams have much to be proud of.

Two VERY average teams and just goes to show how close the majority of teams are in this league that a couple of wins and Hornchurch could be in the playoffs.

Once again some appalling refereeing was the key point to the match with the official seemingly whistle happy in the Hornchurch favour - every time we got an advantage over them one of their players would quickly extend his arm into the air knowing a whistle would result.for non existent fouls or offsides - a free kick that wasn't led to their second goal but for their first they seemed to cut through our defence with no trouble so that needs attention. All our play was down the left hand side in the first half so and the right hand side of the pitch was almost permanently empty. It changed a bit in the second half so presume the manager said something. The new young keeper made a couple of good saves. Other than that it was a relatively even game between two not particularly good sides - Sean Welford worked his socks off to get a goal that wouldn't come and well deserved the MOM award. The weather didn't help - started off not too bad with a slightly squally wind but then worsened and by the end was pretty cold at HDP with rain starting. There was SKY TV in the bar and hope this was not a one off. Plenty of Hornchurch supporters in there drinking loads before the game so hope we earnt a bit from them. On a personal note I brought 4 all together and hope others did similar - attendance was 330 which with the England game (how poor was the second half of that !) being on the box wasn't so bad. The tiny tots having the mascot party were delightful to watch at half time.

I think the crowds reaction when Welford was named MOM said it all to be honest - yes he did work his socks off (as he always seems to do) but I think even Shaun would be embarassed to claim the MOM. I think it was hard to choose an out and out MOM to be fair as no-one really shone today. For me Groombridge just shaded it.....as I said....just.

I have to disagree with you there Pridders re:Groombridge. Had his worst home game for us since he came here. A nightmare I would go so far as to say. He is better than that. Shaun Welford had some good flick-ons but sadly no-one was there to take advantage. They need to be alert to those more often. Apart from that & a shot or two on target (which is encouraging) he didnt shine enough in my eyes to warrant being given the M.O.T.M award but I then I wasn't awarding it was I?

On the plus side M.O.T.M for me & as Dave above mentions Curtis Robinson never put a foot wrong (as usual). Won everything & reads the play well.Got us out of a few spots did he with his forward thinking. Why he hasn't been snapped up by a club higher astounds me.

Wilson was a close second best and put in another good display as did the keeper who though a lilttle short in stature & who didn't have much chance with either goals (poor defending in not winning the header for the first) did make a few very good saves & his kicking was good too.Young Miller had a good first half but faded badly in the second period but will improve for this game I'm sure.

Overall the game was pretty even but it wasn't a great game (wind didn't help matters).

Hornchurch were cetrainly no-where as good as Concorde on the day but they were worthy enough of the point they got. As were we!

A better performance by the lads today but the strength of the opposition probably had something to do with that without taking away from our players the good effort they put in. A draw a fair result.

Just to add. Why,when we have balls lifted into the box do we not have a player near or very near to the keeper. When the ball goes in his direction 9 times out of 10,well actually more like 10 out of 10 times he collects it without any challenge. Hornchurch piled players into the box from such balls yet we stand off & THEN move in once the keeper has already collected. So annoys me that. There are chances there if only they would get closer to him in those situations (but avoid fouling). Still a few silly fouls being made in the outfield & in and around our own penalty area but much better than previous.Still needs improvement with more precise tackling & more care taken in not trying to go through the man in order to get the ball.

When Welford was named MOM he gave a great look of suprise! and also turned to their defender and said 'who me?!' lol

Think Groombridge had a great game, and considering he is a defender I think he played excellent in midfield

And I think the ref gave too much to hornchurch in first half and maybe too much to us in 2nd, but to be fair, he was poor! and about 12....he didnt let the game flow.

I know we always complain about refs but lets be honest, there is a reason they ref in our league!lol! they arent any good!

Moaning about refs at this level is pointless.

In the premiership and champions league the very best players in Europe play. The referees are hailed as the best in Europe yet mistakes are still made . (mistakes will always be made by referees - deal with it)

At the this level the players aren't that good and obviously nowhere near as good as premiership/champions league. The referees are the same level so clearly the referees will make mistakes !!!

If the top, top level referees make mistakes then what chance do Ryman league referees have !!!!

Sorry old Mate, money taken in bar does not go to MFC.

Sorry Cookie, thought groombridge had an excellent game and certainly my MOM.He does the little unnoticed things and certainly breaks up the play. We just look more solid with him in front of the back three/four/five!!!

A scrappy game ruined by an over officious ref but we were worth a point.

Thought miller did well but made too many of the same runs as Welford which resulted in no-one being there when welford did get ahead to the ball.i would have taken Miller off after an hour and brought on lewis either as a straight swap or push pinnock up front . Welford gave his all as usual but cant see him scoring again this season! Hope i am wrong.

You have the right to want to disagree as I have the right to stand by my comments. Funny how opinions can differ so widely eh?

Just to add to the debate: I thought Groombridge was anonymous on Saturday, and usually failed to break up or hold up play. I'm sure he is a nice lad and I hope he comes good, however some games I haven't noticed him from start to finish.

People are saying Curtis never put a foot wrong. Well, I have made him MOM before, but on Saturday I saw him pass straight to the opposition on several occasions, bringing groans from the crowd, and if that is not 'putting a foot wrong' I don't know what is.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, as they say.

Having been the only one I can read to have used that term I take your point Chris but maybe when saying "never put a foot wrong" I was merely using the phrase rather than implying he was errorless. It wasn't mean't as literally as you make it sound . Therefore I concede that my usage of the word was maybe exaggerated .My fault for using the term incorrectly then.

Okay, like nearly every other player out there on Saturday he may well have made the odd bad pass, the odd mistimed clearance or tackle but taking the game over 90 minutes,or generally /or on the whole or more times than not, his first class defending was superb in my eyes. He certainly outshone the rest for me .

Again, differences of opinion...& no problem with that on a forum.

Everyone will believe their personal opinion is correct because it's THEIR personal opinion & It would be a very rare thing for all to agree on everything wouldn't it though on the odd occasion it does happen.

On this occasion & in my own opinion I AM RIGHT!!

;) :97:

Differences of opinions are something that will go on for ever as people see things differently & the forum is there for reasons such as this to see how different people see things & interpret things differently through their own eyes.

You ask any Hornchurch fan and we would say the referee gave too many decisions to gate.To be honest I just thought he was poor,he blew up for the slightest thing and didn't let the game flow

Knew the Ref would have a bad game when I spoke to a guy before kick off who turned out to be a ref's assessor. Why do they let the ref's know they are there.
