Forum Closure

Recommended Posts

I have read the last couple of threads with some bemusement. From what I can work out this all starts from the North Greenford game were some people were disappointed with some of the comments made on the terraces directed at Swift and maybe some other comments that I don't recall. Now as one of the people criticising Swift on Saturday (I did call for him to be subbed) I thought those posts might have been directed towards me and fair enough if that is the posters opinion.

I thought Swift had a poor game Saturday and in a game that we were clinging onto I thought we should have been looking to see it out and that Logie and Byrne were good options on the bench and should have been utilised at the point. Maybe I could have expressed my views more delicately but ultimately I just said "get him off" - direct and to the point. Football fans are not necessarily renowned for the subtlety. Ultimately, I will call it as I see and that sometimes means high praise and yep sometimes I will criticise. I think it is part and parcel of being a footballer that you have to roll with the punches. I think Swift is very talented but has had an up and down season which I think to a certain extent the whole squad has. But we won the game so SB got it right - end of.

I couldn't make last night so can't comment other than to say it was a disappointing result.

But no matter what people's opinions are, we all want the best for STFC, unless there is an unusally high proportion of masochists in the SL postcode. So I don't think we should end up bickering with each other. I think if someone says something you disagree with you either try and debunk it with your own reasons or you ignore it.

Sometimes I think criticism can have a positive effect on players. When Alex Haddow originally joined Slough on loan he seemed to be utilising the spell purely for match fitness, wouldn't play in the FA cup and was rather going through the motions. After some criticism he committed to the club permanently and became one of our best players moving onto a higher level. Martin is similar I think he has shown much greater work rate and tenacity in recent months and is a much more popular player as a result.

I do think as a collective we do tend to favour players with an abundance of energy and work rate as it is a clear sign of passion and commitment to the cause. Just because a player doesn't charge around like a lunatic it doesn't mean they don't desperately want to win.

And we as supporters are the same, we all support the team in our own individual ways but we all want to win. Sometimes passion and frustrations spills over and let's face it this is what these threads are all about. To coin a phrase it is "squeaky bum time" and we all want the Rebels to make the play-offs and we all have our own ideas about how best to achieve that. Let's try and stick together though.

I do agree with pretty much everything Windsor Rebel says particularly about trying to support the players and staying positive. But definitely don't want to see the forum close as we need somewhere to air our opinions. But sometimes we do all need to count to a 100 before posting!

Unfortunately I can't make the next two games but I will be glued to the iphone hoping for six points and a play-off push. See you all at Daventry. Come on you Rebels!

Must say this a an amusing thread, not a Slough fan but read the forum and as a neutral it seems it is what a forum should be. Give your opinion some will agree some won't if players and managers are affected by what is written then for me they need a reality check. Take the good with the bad and ignore both. They never had forums when I played but if a guy in the crowd gave you some you took it on the chin and had a laugh about it with your teammates. It wouldn't affect your performance but was great for team spirit.

As for the you can't comment if you haven't done the job brigade, that world must be a very boring place.

I remember a friendly we played at Maidenhead a few years back and some brave person was giving stick to Graham Roberts! At the end of the game Roberts went over to this chap and had it out with him! I didn`t stick around long enough to see the outcome! those were the good days of when there was banter, another one was Nigel and wanting his slippers back from every opposing goalkeeper`s mrs we ever played against! That was banter, not hiding behind a computer keyboard!

windsor rebel while fully supporting your right to say your piece that does not say that i have to support it, also because i have not competed to a certain standard in a subject it does not mean that i do not have a valid opinion about it, now what information you like to take away and agree or disagree with is totally your bag, but to close down this forum because you don't agree with what is said on it , by god you talk a lot of tosh most of the time but this time it takes the biscuit.

Nigel .... Yellow card ! to you ... its getting a bit boring this repetitive ..people who have no knowledge of the game .. quote...

Its becoming a 2 person debate at times...not good for you or the club ...

please all respect peoples views , but the singling out out of individual players must stop...this helps no one... IMO

We can be passionate and have our thoughts about the game in general and must be allowed to voice these ...its a part and parcel of the football supporter !

We must not hound players or supporters out !

now back to getting the Rebels back on line Saturday ...and some unity in the ranks... UP THE REBELS..

HGV: I am not saying close down this forum because I dont agree with what is said on it, i am saying that, IMO, some of what is said is not good for the team morale,

a view that has been endorsed by other posters, not just my view.

the forum is not here to boost team morale that is the managers job the team not playing well does not do the supporters moral any good which in turn leads to some of the vitriole written on here so what i am saying the team do their job and we won't be upset which means we won't upset them. alternately of course they do not have to read it. like all things plaudits is nice but when you don't deserve it then you have to "man" up and take it on the chin.
