Forum Closure

I am seriously starting to think that the club should consider shutting down this forum, or at least disassociating itself from it.

We have a great chairman, a great team manager are currently doing well in the league and plans are progressing well

for the new stadium.

Yet rather than support the club and its players it seems to me that certain posters are trying to undermine all the good work

being done at our club. Do they have their own agenda?

The biggest irony of it all is that these posters have little or no experience of playing, managing or the workings of a business

such as a football club, I would hazard a guess that their football experience is confined to FIFA playstation 2010 or playing

for the Dog and Duck

Just my view, what do our true supportes think?

I've advocated it myself for a while now, but as it's deemed an "unofficial" forum I doubt it happen. Closing it will only cause issues, look at what happened when it was closed for a short while when the ground situation in the summer was being discussed.

Only Gary as an Admin has the power to do so.

I think that there are two sides to this argument.

Firstly, Yes there are a few posters who take a very negative look on things which comes across as rude and disloyal to players. If they mean for it to come across like this who knows.

This must have a negative effect on the players if they read the forum yes and SB has been quoted as saying he does not like what he sees on the forum.

On the other hand you have the fact that all supporters are entitled to their opinions. If they pay money on the gate then they are entitled to say what they think and its up to the players to prove them wrong.

I think that everyones opinion is valid, whether its right is another story.

Also the players are more than welcome to come on here and slag off the supporters who are being rude.

I actually think that the best way to deal with the forum posters who are negative is to ignore it and carry on. Some posters agitate them and so it gets blown out of proportion.

Should the forum be closed down........no as its a place for supporters to discuss the team, should some posters stop being so negative......probably

Firstly, I'm sure you'll agree there is nothing wrong with discussing how the team played, good or bad, dependant on whether we've won, lost or drawn.

I'm sure the management and players who decide to look at this forum are aware that they will see good and bad comments dependant on how the team have performed because Slough's forum is no different to every other football forum in country.

In fact, having looked at other clubs forums I can honestly say ours is quite tame in comparison.

The only problem I have with this is when the comments get personal and certain players seem to get continually slated. I know we are all entitled to our opinions but I think we can do without this seemingly 'victimisation' of certain players.

In answer to your question WR, this is an 'unofficial' forum and should not be shut down. As far as I'm aware the majority of the postings are OK so why let the minority spoil it for the majority of supporters who like to express their views on this forum.

I think the main problem is that because everyone starts an argument over comments about defeats, the threads related to those defeats go on for a long time, while the gmaes where we win get only half a dozen responses, which is something that Steve Bateman pointed out in that programme article. There is definitely an air of negativity on this forum even when we do win!!

If you shut down this forum, somebody will only create another one in its place. You can never silence opinions that you do not happen to agree with.

If you want to read your opinions (and only your opinions), perhaps you should consider creating your own private forum.

I think this is the problem...most people on here just manage to ignore comments by some posters which are either too critical or a bit unreasonable and then put reasonable posts on here around them, while a few others are drawn into petty arguments like this one developing right here...it is the same people every time!

ARAAS, you're absolutley right. I think this whole silly conversation about shutting down this forum should stop right here.

So what have you achieved in football then Nathan, that you are in a position to criticise players? Please do tell...

Windsor, I may be wrong on this, but I don't think that the majority of the supporters base have acheived a great deal in the world of football.

So by your "logic", they should have no opinions and should not be allowed to air them on this board. They should certainly NOT criticise anybody currently working in football for any reason whatsoever.

I apologise if this is not what you mean, but it really does look like it from here.

I rest my case m'lord.

Now I really don't want to continue this discussion any further. As they say: "I'm taking the ball, and going home".

This forum is starting to be run by the thought police, but sadly they seem to have won.

It's ok to post on here provided you agree with a few, self-appointed, very special people who have set themselves up to decide what should, and what should not be said.

Voltaire was spot on when he said " I may not agree with what you say but I will die for your right to say it" A little more debate, and a lot less bullying is needed.

Getting back on topic...

Mark44, I think you make a good point.

I would just like to say that none of my comments have been, or ever will be intended to simply be rude or disloyal.

Thinking back to the comments I made after the Burnham game, I admit they were much stronger than I had intended. I had just come back from a particularly dire performance, and emotions were running a little high. A few weeks after the game I had a private conversation with the chairman, and I apologised for the wording (though not the underlying points) of my comments and asked him to pass them onto the team and management. At the same time, I also promised not to make such postings without first having a "cooling off period", of preferable at least 1 day after such a performance.

Again, none of my postings have ever been intended as rude, and I apologise wholeheartedly if they ever have been interpreted as such.

But, unless a poster consistently make comments that are well out of order (that is to say, personal in nature), then I think they should be allowed to say what they want on this board.
