MFC v Concord

We all see games differently, but I have to disagree with the official site's version that Concord 'just about deserved their win'.

I thought they could easily have won by a much bigger margin, and, apart from a few minutes in the second half, were all over us. I am sure the 'shots on target' count would be massively in Concord's favour.

The main difference between the sides, in my opinion, was effort and work rate. They didn't allow us any time on the ball, and had 10 defending when we were in possession, and 7 going forward when they were in attack. They brought on 3 subs for tired legs towards the end and kept it going right up to the final whistle.

Whether it is fitness or what I can't say, but it was not just that we had a hard game on Saturday, because they also won a tough away game.

Interested to know how others at the ground saw it: 'just about deserved their win' or 'all over us'?

Easily the best side I have seen at this level in a long time. They are a very well coached side, credit to the management and their committee. They had the 4 main needs, 1st touch, awareness, accuracy of the passing and Fitness ( Long being a bugbear of mine). Unfortunately our walking wounded were over run in midfield and a reluctance to use the keeper to clear the ball kept our defence under constant pressure. Saying that we had our chances, the ever impressive CR (when he could get forward) should have done better on 3 occasions.

Their no11 Stokes is some player, I would say he is not long for our level. Looking at the program notes it says's he was captain of the West Ham reserves.

I go to games to watch football, and that is what i saw last night, some good football.

Well that must have seemed like a stroll to Concorde Rangers players last night.Better in every department than we were. Taught us a lesson well & truly.Only surprise was that they didnt win more easily (scoreline-wise).

Our defence were again making silly errors & not getting to the ball first.Their second goal in particular was a free kick from around the half-way line that was floated into our box & none of our lads attempted to get to it allowing their player to just nip in to score with a glancing header. We really do need to get to that ball first not just in those situations but all over the pitch.

Okay,we had chances yes but all in all & apart from the final 5 minutes we were well & truly second best against a very decent & impressive Concorde side.

Penalty was lucky for us as we could all see it was outside the area but it was well put away by Wilson, who apart from one skier from a corner had a very good game in midfield. He does seem to be putting more into his game in midfield now than just being there for dead ball kicks.Pinnock when moved forward found a spark of genius to get the penalty & looks much better when he is not playing so deep.

Up front we looked innoffective for the majority of the game & Concorde SHOULD have been going home at least 4 goals to the good .

The scorline flatters us a lot & if not there to witness things first hand you would think it was a close thing judging by the score. Having said that we still could have got something in the end from the game which we had no entltlement to have got in truth. Last 5 minutes we woke up but it was all too late.

It wasn't a close game & we weren't really a threat to them overrall & as I said earlier we "got taught a lesson" in how to pass sweetly, move into space, use that space,be direct with clever & concise play.

Why they decided to play those tactics of time wasting near the end was a mystery to me because had they continued to play they way they were playing there were certainly more goals avaliable to them

We are better than this despite them being a good side but we need to bring to home crowds the form that we find away from home otherwise we will be down to 2 figure attendances (well maybe not that bad) & thats a worry.

Not there-so can only speculate as opposed to commet, but was last night a simple example of once we are playing a team with just a bit about them, our lack of central midfield players is exposed (we only have wilson);and it enabled the opposition to keep the majority of possession and thus dominate the game.

despite his hard working qualities, pinnock is not a midfield player.

Needs groombridge as defensive midfield player; then wilson, plus rogers and someone else in central midfield. (if rogers is still with us which seems unlikely).

Until we get quality and numbers in midfield-we will just continue to stutter.

was that the simple difference last night ?

With about 8 days of transfer availability left-i wonder whether KR will be allowed to sign just one player to bolster the central midfield (lack of ) options

midfield players left during season: saunders,l marsden, stubbs, keister, sherman. (rogers ?)

midfield players joined-- rogers

i agree second best alround i am afarid.

Just thought they were a yard quicker and won nearly every second ball.Game should have been over by half time. However, the first goal was a defensive error as hill should never have been pushed off the ball so easily. They closed us down quickly and never gave us time to play although they seemed to find their own time to knock it around.

I dont blame the manager and i thought the players gave their all.Just sometimes you come up against a better team on the night and they were.

i must add that i thought we looked a lot more solid down the middle once Groombridge came on and i will continue to champion his place in the team.Agree with pridders re pinnock looking better out on the right where he can attack the full back one on one.He seems lost and the game passes him by in the middle.

Wilson was my MOM again.he never gave up and Mr Shouty should be ashamed of his criticsm (put politely) of him re one poor corner. We will need him for the run in and next season particularly if the rumours re Rogers departure are true.

Finally, disagree with Pridders wholeheartedly re Lewis being a sunday league player. He is not built like Welford and hence does not play like him.i thought with the ball at his feet he showed some good touches and quick feet.Play to his strength namely to his feet and not lump it up in the air to him and he can do a good job.i certainly think he will be an asset if given time and a run in the team .

Finally, i did hear the manager making comments to the team of a tactical and positional nature so well done to him.it is very early days and i for one wish him well. His substitution of lacy was tactically correct and i applaud the manner in which Lacy reacted to the same for the better of the team.

i am still looking forward to saturday.

Sorry, have to agree with Pridders again on Lewis. To lightweight for this level.

No sugarcoating or hiding, we were very poor. Not too sure why so much praise for Concord - thought they were pretty average. Having said that, the scoreline flattered us. They should've won by more. Referee atrocious.

Concorde wre a TEAM last night each player knew were the others were going brilliant play by no? to allow the ball to go though his legs for another to run on to for the 2cd goal.

Must go back to specsavers new glasses must have failed lat night as i though the ref was excellent 1st half and just made a few mistakes in the second . He probably ran further than anybody last night and policed the teams well.

Hope to prove you and Pridders wrong in time!

Would just say that i have only seen him for a few minutes at Tooting and last night so less than 90 overall! We cant have a whole team built like Welford and so horses for courses.
