Kennedy Park - Aerial Photo

PJ-STFC

Recommended Posts

Just been browsing the Observer 'Community Forum', which I can see a few of you know about already!

One of the posters has a useful website showing an aerial photo of Kennedy Park which has some of the key features indicated.

Unfortunately, it does not show where the new stadium might be sited...

The photo linked from RebelsOnLine is not annotated.

The website I 'found' included an aerial view (probably was the same one!) with additional markers showing the various landfill sites, the water tower, the old play centre, etc - useful for someone who does not know the area like me.

Unfortunately, as I have just discovered, that website no longer shows the picture, so this thread has become rather pointless!

Also, not living in Slough, I don't have access to the Express...

(But I note, RBNathan, that you have updated the caption for the photos showing the power station. Also, revisiting those pictures reminded me what a desolate and uninspiring open space Kennedy Park is at present. Hopefully the regeneration scheme would include planting some trees?)

I know ....but those photos are the property of getmapping.com and while you are allowed to link to the page containing the photo you want, you are not allowed to download them and if you want to display the whole photo on a website you have to pay getmapping.com - looking at the Slough community forum that's the reason why the "helpful" photo the webmaster had on his site has had to be removed as he'd used it without permission.....I think it's a shame as his annotations were useful, but those are the rules........

I was interested in yopur comments about Kennedy Park being "desolate" and "uninspiring" - I have to say I thought much the same, but Councillor Janik seems to think the place is pretty much perfect as it is....I'll be very interested to know the views of residents when the feasability study gets underway....

[color:"blue"]Louise, I never said Kennedy Park was perfect. However I usually prefer green grass to concrete and tarmac.

For a nice view of Britwell climb the mound. For an even better view of the surrounding area go to the fifth floor of the Wentworth Avenue flats.

Britwell residents have wanted COMMUNITY facilities on Kennedy Park like ONE not 4 football pitches, a swimming pool and sports centre.

However shops, offices, hotel and houses on Kennedy Park are definitely not on the residents' priority list.

It will be a fight to save Kennedy Park and I am confident it won't be easy for Labour-controlled Slough Borough Council and the get-rich quick STFC scheme. Kennedy Park belongs to Britwell and should not be used as a solution to Labour's dislike of a few STFC supporters hanging about outside the Town Hall making a nuisance of themselves.

319 attendance at Saturday's game in Windsor. How many of those were STFC supporters?

STFC need a stadium and they could, and should, use Belfast Stadium until they have so many supporters they have to consider bigger premises. Then that move should be to Slough Trading Estate not Kennedy Park.

Just a personal opinion freely expressed as a resident of Britwell to those selfish and short-sighted supporters whose greed for Britwell's green spaces needs to be challenged.

Lets be honest, STFC wants to make millions of pounds out of Britwell and the vast majority of that commercial development will not benefit Britwell. Instead the profits will flow out of Britwell leaving us with a few crumbs plus massive local disruption and the permanent lost of our Kennedy Park.

A cynic telephoned me during the week suggesting that after next year's local elections Cllr Anderson will let the STFC stadium matter drop. I don't know if that will actually happen. I accept the commercial business known as STFC needs a stadium so why are you lot so reluctant to tackle the Thorne-Deaner conflict and try to resolve it? Scared, haven't a clue or just not bothered? I've previously mentioned in this forum my willingness to have a go as part of a committee despite not being interested in football (my school played rugby).

If anyone is genuinely interested in forming a roughly 50% supporters 50% non-supporters committee to try and solve the Wexham Park problem let me know. Email me at football@pauljanik.com No jokers, no crap just ability needed.

Sorry ladies and gentlemen that's my person opinion as a resident. Even if I was not a councillor my views on Kennedy Park would be the same.

I like green spaces, it must be in my blood.

Please familiarise yourself with the facts about STFC and the history at Wexham Park and so on, then you can comment with more authority about "get rich schemes", the Centre Stadium, Messrs Thorne & Deaner, the 319 and anything else related to the town's senior football club.

OK have your say and protest, but for goodness sake stop using this forum for political sniping and uninformed accusations.

Well said - I have started a new thread entitled "Reply to Cllr Janik" to fully discuss the points raised in his reply as Anonymous above as I feel that some of what he has said needs the comments of others and this thread has strayed off topic Reply to Cllr Janik (new thread)

Thank you, Louise, for saving this thread and for your comments earlier.

My opinion of Kennedy Park is based entirely on the photos shown on RebelsOnLine, as I have not visited the area.

I am sure that the recent long dry spell has not helped its green-ness, but even allowing for that it does not really match up to Upton Court Park, Lascelles Park or (my favourite) Herschel Park - all of which I know quite well.

This development has the potential for raising additional landscaping funds, eg as a requirement of planning approval, which will make Kennedy Park into a real park (like the aforementioned) rather than what currently appears to be little more than a grassy open space.

The webmaster has now obtained permission from getmapping.com to use their image, so the annotated map is back

Here's a link for anyone who missed it - Here In Slough

Um, yes, I forgot to log in yet again - the above post was me trying to be helpful

Now I wonder when Mr Janik will reply to my questions.....I won't hold my breath.......
