I’ve just been reflecting on this forum over the last few days and while some of you have been demanding and suspicious in copious quantities, I for one am a bit disappointed that the threads on what was / is a major issue have been locked.

Everyone has the option to read or not read the posts, and can decide whether or not to reply.

Emotions ran high and rightly so. Iain is a legend at the club. He managed in the same way he played; with passion and a desperate will to win.

You could take the view that what followed the board’s decision (and just to be clear, I’ve answered all the questions on that I’m going to!) was a load of frustrated fans sniping at each other and in uproar about a decision they had no influence over. Or you could frame it as a number of passionate fans expressing their feelings at an event that felt really important to them in the club’s journey.

As the person trying to deal with the fall out by providing factual information to supporters, I’ll not say it was loads of fun for me at the time!

But, this forum is always busy and always features a range of views and that’s what an unofficial forum is designed to do. (It will also explain why we don’t run an official one on the website!)

I’d much rather look at this forum, than those associated with most other clubs anywhere.

Hear, hear to that!

I'm also sort of surprised that the threads got locked. The trouble was that there were so many threads on basically the same theme that there was a lot of repetition and it was getting irritating reading the same comments on multiple threads which seemed to amplify the complaints. I also follow a premier league team (OK West Ham) forum where multiple threads on a similar theme get locked to keep all the comments in one place to prevent this sort of thing - that can also be irritating itself as a forum with 100's or 1000's of participants can rapidly generate pages and pages of comments on a hot topic. Anyway it's a thought the mods might want to consider.

I also agree about other forums for clubs at our level. I'll often try to see what fans of other clubs are thinking by browsing their forums and am always disappointed to find how little any of them have to say!

I took the decision to lock the many threads on IOC leaving as in my opinion they were going around in circles. You had made the statement from the club and then you had stated that there would be no further statements having quantified all the points made in a further post.

It is an important and major issue which is still a very HOT topic to everyone involved with Margate and if people still wish to debate these issues then of course they can carry on... thats what forums are all about. I stand by my actions tho in locking the threads that I did.

Thanks for your comments.

I havent been on for quite some time (issues with passwords and muppetry in motion) I enjoy it here even if I dont usually have anything of weight to add to the conversation...maybe having one message pinned for people who do want to carry on with a particular subject and direct towards it if a similar situation arises in future? (please gods no more bloomin' agravation for my beloved Blues!!!) :monkey:

But wasn't it just topic after topic of the same old tosh? Did-he-walk-or-was-he-pushed over and over again, plus two or three individuals multi-quoting in their own little battle.

I have never been so hacked off with the forum and totally support the action of the mods.

Just an opinion.

I agree - I am new to this forum and so do not have a history in my head of the regular participants but have seen an high level of sniping between certain contributors that seems to be using the IOC scenario as a means to other ends - as I implied in my post 'what next' it is all a bit pointless as the decision has been made and acted on. It's a bit like Man City supporters demanding the resignation of the Sheikh who owns the club or Chelsea fans demanding the same of Roman Abramovich because a couple of games had been lost. I will be there next Saturday as usual and will be attempting to strong arm another couple of people along as well. I am reminded that Margate FC did a hell of a good job when my grandson was mascot which I shall post about on another ocassion

Interesting thread and opening post from Wellsie, and to be fair- an honest reply and substantiation from a moderator.

( a bit like a referee-one has to respect their decision and without them-we probably would not have a forum )

I similarly thought a few threads were locked a bit prematurely-it surely was a hot topic-as the news was only 4 days old-and when Yorath and butler 'left' the debates went on for weeks.

At the same time-ithere were probably a few too many on essentially the same subject.

What i love is those posts where someone (not a moderator) unilaterally decides that they must have the fiinal word on any subject ,and ends their post with the immortal words

'end of '

Must admit I do get frustrated with some of the content on here. Occasionally it steps over the mark. I have a choice, read it or not (In the case of our justifiably much maligned friend from the red side I personally censor him,i lock him out of my computer). The moderators (there are more than one, do they consult or, is it down to personal taste) should step in, anything slanderous and abusive should be cleared. Other than that, I thought we lived in a democracy not a dictatorship. Are not our armed forces in action as i type. Fighting against people like the Taliban and Gaddafi who, remove the freedoms we take forgranted, from their people. I get even more frustrated when on the odd occassion I have tried to post on a topic with what I believe is constructive view only to find I was not allowed. . Sorry but not acceptable.

As this is an unofficial forum, I would have left threads there, maybe integrating them at same time.

However I can see why others were closed as same subject and just going on and on and on.....................

As a moderator on another forum,a forum that for many years was well known for locking/deleting/moving threads I am usually against locking threads but I must admit it was impossible to keep up to date with what was going on as there were so many different threads, and sometimes when the bitching gets too much it is for the best to lock them.
