Romford v ETFC

Altogether a poor display.

The team lacked width. We badly miss Adam and Leon, I would play Siva out wide instead of one of the three forwards and see if that works better. Our forwards are not scoring goals but thrat may be because the midfield do not get forward enough. I thought that Bryan had a good game yesetrday but Moore was able to perform his role further forward and we looked more dangerous when he came on.

Still only three points between us and 4th place and I feel that we have the easier run in. A week off now and the position will be a lot clearer next Saturday. I still believe we can make the play offs. But if not then we have to play for pride and think about building for next season in our new ground.

Wont be at the Waltham Forest game hope to be sailing from Burnham to Tollesbury.

Altogether a poor display.

I agree it was a poor display from a very ordinary Enfield side, but when Romford show the form we did yesterday, we would probably beat anyone from RLN. Three easy points was just what we needed to put us in the right frame of mind for Tuesdays match at Tilbury, which should be a much tougher test.

Sincere best wishes in your quest for a playoff place, where it would be nice to meet up again, and also give Romford an easy passage into the final.

Missunderstood

If you thought that Romford showed top form yesterday then I think that you are easily satisfied.

I dont think that Romford played as well as they did at our place a couple of weeks ago!

I have looked at the chase for play off places and Brentwood have by far the hardest run in playing 4 of their 7 matches left against a top 9 club. If they secure a dozen points out of that then they deserve to be in the play offs and a dozed points puts them out of our reach.

We have, on paper, the easiest run in as we dont play a club in the top half of the table.

You should make the playoffs though you have a lot of fixtures in the last month 5 of your 10 games left are against clubs challenging for a play off place including Needham Market who would surely be looking for a premiership win.

Maldon only have to play 2 of the top 9 as have Wingate and Finchley, although their form has dipped rather a lot lately, Sudbury and Harlow.

Due credit to Romford for their win yesterday. Disappointing to hear that we put in another below par performance and taken another hit in our quest for the play-offs. We do have a good squad of players, but injuries to key players are clearly taking their toll, and we seem to fall well short of our own standards when these guys are not in the team.

We might have an easier run-in than other teams with our seven remaining fixtures but, they will all need to be won if we are going to have any realistic chance of making the top five this season. That won't be easy and it is quite a challenge allowing for our recent form.

Nothing is impossible, and it is never over until the fat lady sings, but we certainly now face an up-hill task.

Good luck guys, we have had quite a few highs and lows this season, and you have turned in some great performances. Play out of your skins in the next seven matches and, who knows, we might still yet achieve our ultimate objective!

Steph - On the positive side it's mathematically impossible for us to go down as Waltham Forest can only get 46 points!!! :futbolbud2: :) :)

The run in is going to be very tight... I've put together all the top 12 teams's respective run ins (see the coldend ) and even though we've lost 13 games I still think we're in with a chance... Win the next two games and then see what happens!!

One good thing is that we now have an so called "easier" run of games (no games are ever easy as we know so i'm sure Steven and the lads won't fall into that trap) but all of the current 12 apart from Town have to play each other a minimum of three times (Harlow Town and AFC Sudbury) Romford and Needham Market are the highest with 6/10 and 6/8 games left. This will mean teams will nick points off of each other making it even closer than it already is... Anyone for a tense final Saturday at home to Tilbury???

I and everyone present could see we lacked width and have big time missed Adam up front since he's been injured....he links up so much play betwen the midfield and attack....with Leon out as well as the other injuries during the season these have not been kind to Steve and the team.

COME ON THE TOWN!!!!

I agree its getting very tight now but at least a playoff place is still in our own hands, although to be fair, most of us think we are overachieving this season anyway.

I wonder how many of your supporters remember when you knocked us out of the FA Cup in a second replay at Highbury many years ago, I still have the newspaper cutting of your player punching the ball into the net, and the only person in the ground that missed it was the referee. Happy days.

your right stef- the ref did say that! Also remember the first replay at Southbury Road and the gate collapsed with the crush outside. Heavens only know how many got in for free. You couldn't move in the ground...

Also in those days weren't you a southern league semi-professional outfit whilst Enfield were amateurs. In other words we were "giant killers".

Its true we were semi professional at the time, but to suggest that Enfield was a truly amateur side is probably stretching it a bit. I remember the Enfield players walking on our pitch before the match in their club suits and they really did look the real deal, and they played like it too. No disgrace to lose to what was one of the great "amateur" sides from that era, and what a privilege for both clubs to play at Highbury in a classic FA Cup tie.

Wouldn't it be great though to attract the same attendances we probably all took for granted in the good old days.

Misunderstood is right that we (Romford) have probably exceeded our expectations for this season. Of the top sides we've played only East Thurrock have really impressed me; Needham Market weren't as good in my opinion. Grays, when we played them away were impressive but are inconsistent and now too far off the pace.

Enfield played decent football in both games against us, but seem to lack a clinical and cutting edge in front of goal that East Thurrock and Needham have.

This is a very tight division and I'd suggest that ETU will win it, with Needham and Brentwood occupying two play-off places; the other two are up for grabs from the teams that hold their nerve in the last seven or eight games. Romford's advantage is the games in hand, assuming we win them! Wingate seem to have lost the plot and I'd suggest that if Harlow hold their nerve, they'll get a place in the play-offs.

Below par performance - you can say that again.

Not too sure who I would give MOM to because it was difficult to see who played well.

Very disappointing to see the players surround the referee when the penalty was given. How many times have you seen a referee change a decision when given? What did we get out of it? A penalty, at least one booking, a goal down and then SN getting sent off at half time. Why did he not get back into the changing rooms at half time and rally the troops rather than stew over the decision? How many times have the management team been banished from the touchlines this season? Far too many and disapppointing to see the ill discipline. Should be setting an example.

The team really need to start picking themselves up after this performance if we are to have any chance of getting into playoffs. Don't be concerned over who is playing whom and who may lose points. Just concentrate on playing the best you can.

Very well put Andy.

Manager and Coach / Assistant have been banished far too may times ( someone confirm ).

As for the performance, it was back several weeks with absolutely no passion and a total lack of attitude ( other than to rant at the Ref ) .

As others have said - tactically it was poor with a lack of any imagination to change the game.

Why hit long high balls up to 3 strickers who do not win headers ?

Yes we have had more than our share of long term injuries - but so have other Clubs.

We still have players in the squad who can perform but they are either played in the wrong positions or left out.

Said it before so will say again - sometimes you have to be brave and GO FOR IT with a change of tactic or Player and do it with more than 10 mins left at 0 - 2.

I think the play offs are beyond us and perhaps that will prove to be a good thing as this squad is good, but only with all first team involved and football just ain't about the first eleven. Injuries happen.

Hope I am proved wrong.

Was'nt there Saturday, but if I was, the result would still be history.

In my view, as others have stated, we play 7 out of the bottom 8 in our run in. So don't be expecting majestic football on the horizon. To put it bluntly, our season starts now, 7 games to play and I blieve we need to win at least 5 if not 6 to finish 5th.

Good to see Jon Moore back. Our luck with injuries have been of the most unfortunate I have known in any team, that includes Sir Alex and his defence too.
