Another sorry chapter in the joke that is Margate Football Club. Over the years with many things the club have treated the fans like idiots. A few things to get off my chest

Mark Butler had poor players to work with, and a tiny budget, however there were definate, albeit small, improvements in terms of quality of the football being played - we actually passed the ball. Then the appointment of O'Connell (and given a contract) and ,suddenly, vast amounts of money were avaliable . Why wasnt Butler given such money to pay the wages of Saunders, Pinnock, Turner etc etc. This is by far the best squad we have had for years and still we are back to pumping the long ball and not passing to a blue shirt and not anywhere near play offs.

Attendance wise, the club should be a little grateful for the loyal fans who do turn up week in, week out for the last years. 300-400 average gate is a pretty good return for the negative state of the club in recent years but the club had the downright cheek to imply our support wasnt enough and more bodies though the gate was needed and for some reason the club believe they can attract more fans - well face it - they cant. Delusions of Grandeur.

Im sure "Wellsie" will reply that the budget were "competitive" for both O'Connell and Butler, but we are not stupid - the calibre of player we have now is far far better than the squad under Butler.

I just think that for the next home match there should be a attendance of 0 home fans - show the board that we are not happy and we wont be taken for mugs any longer. the only way to do that is to vote with your feet and dont go.

Next Manager - easy - imagine the type of football we were beginning to play under Butler WITH the quality of players on the money that O'Connell was suddenly given. Butler for me.

finally I am utterly convinced that we have been lied to about many things over the years, and this is another one. Clearly O'Connell was sacked - why lie about it? i Hope not one manager applies. Why would a manager apply for a job when they know they will be treated badly.

the whole thing stinks.

Sorry it is my football club and it will have my loyal support.

That is not to say that I support the Board and thier decisions as they know that I do not.

You do not get change from being outside but by being inside.

Support your club through these troubled times

i stopped goin to matches about 3 months ago not because of results but the style of play was unacceptable .2 shots at goal in an entire match is a joke.with the players in the team we should have been a lot better.i thout iain was the right man but he is tactically inept.it is a great shame bot if fans are to return to the ground in these very hard times there must be value for money and some exitement . who will take over i havnt a clue but he must supply a decent knoledge of what the paying public wants and thats not drab boring football. if ck has the desire again he is the man

Correct that the fans are the only constant and we count for nothing which is why there are 17,000 corporate seats at Wembley and fans cannot get a ticket on the ocassion, which may be the only one in their lifetime, when their club gets to Wembley. The continual turnover of managers at Margate is worrying though. I thought IOC wasn't doing too badly with relegation not a worry for what seems a long time but there are other signs that might be indicators that the problem is finance based. Players departing, no food on the snack wagon other than a bit of own brand bacon and some burgers, SKY TV not available in the lounge anymore etc etc. I was concerned that IOC was deemed unable to get the best out of players like Dean Grant so let him go but of course fans never know what is going on behind the scenes at any club so who knows ? I will move to Margate next year but for the moment I gave up a season ticket at a massive Premier league club to go to games with my grandson who lives locally and I travel from London for every game at not inconsiderable cost these days and the last thing I want him to see is his club (and now mine) not being honest and true to all concerned so the statement on the website should be amplified I think. and not waffle. Did consider voting with my feet but that's not the way to chnage things. I bet it is not coincidence that they did it before an away game not a home one.

Yes but we have a number of winnable games coming up very quickly. Nobody in the wings to take over it would seem. So board need to interview prospective candidates. Meanwhile we need some more points on the board despite CE's confident approach to our remaining fixtures being dead rubbers. We still need 9 points to be safe. concerned that current debacle is not going to help us secure ryman prem safety. I hope I am wrong but if next 2 matches pass in next few days without any points I for one will become very nervous.

you have hit the nail on the head saying we dont know what goes on behind the scenes...ive heard some things o'connell done to players, the way he treated them and if they are true he deserved to go..BUT i dont know if they are true..as fans all we hear are rumours, gossip, say so from people who know people who know people whore are some how involved in the club...we dont know what really has gone on and thats a shame...fans always kept in the dark

Just got in from work.Got phone call from Melvin telling me the news. Surprised?.. Yes I was but if the board deem it fit to let the manager go then who are we to judge. As you mention we don't really know what has gone on behind the scenes.

Ian did okay, not brilliant but okay & you have to take into account the budget cuts. Not helpful was it?

Another thing that went against him was that continual "stuck" record we keep hearing .The one about how well we played ,how we missed chances galore & conceded against the run of play & were always "unlucky"..

Now, the players need to look at themselves here.Where has there been improvement on this. Those players should be cutting out these silly mistakes & at the other end become more lethal.Have they worked on these things in training?

Having apportioned some blame on the players here, each week we also hear the manager saying the same thing. It is up to him ultimately to install into those players that errors at the back or poor finishing up front need rectifyng. It wasnt happening was it? So he has that against him.

Is this departure solely to do with money & yet another budget cut though?

Ian has been a legend for this club but all managers come under scrutiny & have to be judged on results whether they are legends or not. I personally wish Ian the best wherever he goes.Having managed this club it goes down well on a CV & thats why we won't be short of applicants for the vacant job whether that be this season or next. Ian will surely get work eleswhere & good luck to him. Without restraints at another club Im sure he will do better but he does need to solve problems that arise from poor performances.Again it has to be said the players need to look at themselves here also.

As for boycotting games.Sorry but absolutely NOT. As others have said thats definately not the way to go.This club means more than a lot to some of us but at the end of the day it is merely a pastime for us in truth.

Those that are making these decisions are the ones paying the wages out of their own pockets most times, wages that are'nt there purely because people arent going to matches to help pay them.To me if you are a true blue you will go to matches no matter how they play. Yes, we can moan & groan after a match, maybe walk out early on the odd occasion feeling disgusted but we should always pick ourselves up & go next time.

The board have every right to do as they wish whether we like it or not but I tell you this they DO care & ARE doing what they feel is right for our club so please get off their backs & support them rather than bemoan them for their actions.

Not all decisions are going to be popular.Tough! Like the one I am not too happy about with those 3 players taking over things. Not sure if this will work but we have to accept it like it not & finally if we want a successful team with more skillful players a bigger squad & better results not forgetting a more affordable & better budget then we need to go to matches & not stay at home....................... no matter what we see, hear,or disagree with!

OMG what a live in a cloud loving tree hugging I dont believe its not butter worshipping clod you truly are...... if you are/were a true fan this would be the last action on your mind so I tend to think you are one of those trouble making scum that peruse this forum to stir [censored] when nothing better seems to be happening in your pathetic existence. There Ive given you something to truly stay away from a home game, support like yours is whimsical to say the least.

Point taken Dave but the term "present" or temporary custodians is lost on certain individuals.

Some good, interesting, well articulated replies . Thank you. However disappointed with the reply from "Danny riding " . I don't understand the need for personal abuse on here. A forum is too allow people to voice opinions in a safe environment , not to hide behind a computer screen calling other people scum etc.its highly unfair to judge or condemn someone based on a opinion they have, especially when they don't even know the person to begin with. The reply he posted showed a complete lack of understanding and intelligence. If he would like To discuss further or explain his viewpoint then I would be happy To meet face to face at a future home game. Personal abuse is not necessary.

I don't get it with some of your fans.As a non Margate fan I look forward to coming to your gaff every year and we are always well received both by the club and the fans alike.Ok some are upset by the manager going but these things happen. You have the best gate side I have seen for a while but obviously things haven't gone accordingly, you have beaten Sutton in the league but lost to some poor sides, shows in your league position,so something obviously wasn't right on the pitch. But to suggest that fans should stay away is ridiculous, that can only ever have one effect and that's the demise of a club not to see it go forwards, just keep supporting your club and let the big boys make the decisions

Most home games have been a chore, I agree. We actually play much better away but, of course, most people don't see those games.

I dont get some of our fans either - I think it comes from living in Thanet generally! I just want to support my team so my lad has something to look forward to when he grows up. He's looking forward to the game on 26th (as its his birthday party) I want the club to progress and not have some sort of crisis hanging over us at the end of the season (relegation would really put a crimp in my year) I love my team, I want it to continue. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
