Goodbye to the CCL for now !

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Before the rumours and bulls**t start lets get it from the horses mouth.

I have ben sacked from Egham Town this evening !

I had asked to see the Chairman to have a catch up and was relieved of my post within 15 seconds of the meeting i called.

No reason was given despite my request but my gut feeling is a stich up.

I would rather be told i am a sh*t manager than no explanation.

Not sure if i am gutted or angry !

I took over when Egham were 4th from bottom in Jan 09 and we finished 13th after wining 10 out of the last 13.

Last year we finished 4th the highest the club has finished in the CCL with a record points and goal tally and playing a style of football that was a pleasure to watch.

This year we have stuttured mainly due to losing key players and injuries through no fault of my own.

Egham are still however 8th in the league and have a good opportunity to finish in the top 6.

I dont think thats bad in 2 years ?

There will be people who make comments about budget but as many previous managers will know the manger has no

control over money at Egham and i have not agreed any money with any players. The club do that.

Any manager at any level will know how much hard work it takes and at times it is a thankless task.

To be treated in such away makes it a hard pill to swallow.

At least at the top level they get a huge pay off !

However its not the end of the world and as one door closes hopefully another one will open.

Hope to see you all soon.

Cheers

Bakes

Sorry to read this Steve, as you say you've improved the team & sadly they treat you this way.

I wish you all the very best for the future & hope you find a club that will treat you in a better manner

Thats sad to hear Steve I can't believe the way some managers are being treated as you say your track record at Egham is very good, is there a third party waiting in the wings me thinks ?

Not sure mate but wouldn't be surprised.

If there is then maybe it will start to make sense.

Happens at every level !

Cheers for the message mate

Fecking gutted. Not only has Steve been stitched up, he has been knifed in the back by a chairman who spends most of his time in Portugal. I doubt Pat Bennett has seen more that 10 games all season. His eldest son spends time criticising team selections, and the call I got from his youngest son, Paul, indicated that the fact that some players spat the dummy was attritutable to the now departed manager. I have been, as I have said countless times, with the club (on and off the committee) for over 40 years. Pat Bennett has been the eminence gris since the early 90s when, according to a man who was then the club treasurer, he saved the club from going under. Since then, even despite that great start, I have had more than my fair share of rows with him, and I certainly disagree with him on this.

Under Steve we got an attacking policy that always guaranteed goals. I know we got stuffed a few times but then we adminstered a few beatings too. Steve is an amazing, honest and committed manager and I dread the day we come up against his next team. As for the next man, if he fails to get us to Step 4 in one season he might just as well not bother. Has the Leatherhead manager found a job yet???

Gutted. This is an absolute sh*te decision. The best manager we have had in years and yet again the Club make a gigantic balls up. Was going to go the Ash game tomorrow but now I don't think i'll bother. All the best Steve for the future. You can't keep a great manager down for long.
