Capital Lge - Hornchurch 2 Stevenage Borough 4

The attendance for this game was 63. Not spectacular but two seasons ago this was not far away from the average first team attendance. And once again the Capital League provides another excellent game of football.

So it was a stern test against a strong side, and one which for a 5 minute spell they looked like they would totally dominate and in which they ended up with a flattering scoreline. Stevenage opened the scoring through Simon Wormull in the 17th minute and extended their lead two minutes later, punishing us when we weren't quite on our game. We hauled ourselves back into it and pulled a goal back with 5 minutes of the first half remaining courtesy of an Andrew Martin chip from 18 yards which was top class.

The second half began with a quality save apiece from both goalkeepers and we quickly began to take control and really cause the visitors some problems. We drew level 5 minutes before the end of normal time, Tony Maynard running on to a forward ball, leaving his marker for dead and slotting past the keeper for another quality goal. Two minutes into injury time Maynard nearly found the net again with a shot from just inside the area after a great run from Andrew Martin but it went narrowly wide. Almost immediately though, Stevenage took the lead, Justin Richards heading in from about 10 yards, and they added insult to injury shortly after with an absolute rocket of a free kick from 25 yards from Jamie Gould which surely no-one could have saved.

The goals will be on the web site soon.

Line-up:- Collier, Sorhaindo, Neville, Fields (Maritu 45), Locke (Williams 63), Dada, Bradley, Lowery, Cripps, A Martin, Rowland (Maynard 63). Subs not used:- Kite, Wray (GK)
