Porka
I wasn't biggest fan of O'Connell...still find it strange though to not give him til end of season at least If the board had decided he wasn't getting a new deal, it makes sense. Gives the new man time to have a look and line up any signings before the best get snapped up. We obviously benefitted from this last summer in the early captures of Cloke and Ball. Coffin Ender
As for the timing, all our remaining games are pretty much dead rubbers, so not a bad time for a new incumbent to come in.
Twist&Shout
Maybe there is one lined up?? I know like you said pridders there is budget for a big name but if the club has an ambition it needs to get in the right staff (players and management). I know we need bigger crowds to make more money available but this news is going to make crowds decrease I imagine!!
Paul H
I cannot believe this. The guy has done wonders with what he's got avaliable in funds. You could see he is building a squad and this cannot happen over night. For a manager to have a serious chance he needs alot longer than just one and a half seasons. 3 at least. He's by far the best manager Margate have had since Kinnear IMO. Disscusting. Margate FC don't deserve a gentleman like O'Connell. IMO probably the 3rd biggest mistake MFC have made in the last 10 years. 1. Knocking down the old HDP and not developing the ground a side at a time 2. Sacking Chris Kinnear 3. Sacking O'Connell Just told my Grandfather and he agree's, absolutely disscusting, and thats coming from someone who's supported MFC his whole life. A message to Ian. Go prove this shambles of a club wrong now. Best of luck Ian. MummyBunny

faithfulblue
I am completely lost for words, someone better have a good explaination for this!! What can possibly be gained from sacking Iain at this stage in the game, have we really allowed him the time that he needs!! I will be really sorry to see Iain go as I have always found him to be a very pleasant & approachable person. Another one bites the dust so they say, I blame whoever it was that said these things come in 3's!!

Bill in USA
For my penny worth - wow! And I thought JW's job was on the line. Crazy. As someone said, gives the new manager a chance to see what you have. My comment also for the Rams a short while ago.
Andy .
Pathetic , the club is the lowest of the low on this , it tries to raise itself by building a state of the art stadium with the people of Thanet signing and surporting the club as they wanted us to . Then the great board of Margate delivier the verdict of lets pi.. off a big majority of the tiny fan base we have left and sack the manager . In my eyes what they want is no club let it fall apart then there is nothing to wake upto each morning to have to worry about . End of a chapter for alot of the gallient few that are left . They moan and bitch about the way the council go on about the way they treat the club well what about the way the board treat the club and the fans , afterall we are the life & soul are we not . wade
Makes no sense (unless sombody is lined up) but this is no way to behave even for a football club. We have a good squad should be higher in league and IOC probably needed some coaching support but the board pulled the rug on that one. IOC did not deserve this and the manner in which it has been announced (in the media) is disgraceful. Respect for the board? Sorry their silence is deafening. Decent guy, passionate and wanted to return Margate to previous heights. Do the board?
margateshot
I'm not too sure what to think about this at the moment. However, I started listening to IOC in his interview after the Bury match, and stopped it half way through after listening to the same thing that I had listened to all season, i.e we didn't deserve to lose, we were the better team, we just need to put our chances away etc. On the announcement side of things, maybe the club have have more news befor they announce it, I don't know. Pridders
listening to the same thing that I had listened to all season, i.e we didn't deserve to lose, we were the better team, we just need to put our chances away etc. Hallelujah! Amen to someone else who isn't blinkered. IOC did not deserve this and the manner in which it has been announced (in the media) is disgraceful. I do absolutely agree with you on that one - definitely. Edited March 18, 2011 by Pridders
