A great piece in the recorder today about the Free Season ticket offer for Under 12's

Also a little mention that the club has the T***enham v West ham game on in the clubhouse before our game.

Also in the Letters section on page 30 is a letter from Club Chairman,Super Colin Mcbride.Along with this is another couple of letters from other local residents which compelled me to write the following in response.

I would like to add my comments to the Upminster Park debate.I have lived within 200 yards of the park for nearly 30 years now and as a kid i grew up playing football there along with many other sports. It is a lovely park and one i am proud to call my local park.We have a great Cricket club there and many children and Adults use the park and its many amenities.

With Regards to the letter in this weeks Recorder,i must point out that Patricia Flavells letter is factually incorrect, she states on the 26th February that our first team trained at the park, well this is impossible as we was winning 3-1 away at Concord Rangers at the time!!!

AFC Hornchurch is a wonderful football club which i am very proud to be the Supporters Association Chairman,it does many good things in the community, from offering free season tickets to Under 12's,like they have done recently to providing many people with good football in a friendly atmospehere at a lovely Stadium in Bridge Avenue. It is also a place for kids to watch local football which in this day and age is becoming increasingly difficult due to high prices at many premiership & League clubs.

I believe AFC Hornchurch have been vilified wrongly so in this instance, football has been played in the park for years in all sorts of weather and as i visit the park almost daily, there has been no damage whatsoever to the ground.Yes it was wet after heavy rain but the training done by AFC Hornchurch was minimal and as Colin Mcbride our club Chairman has said,it was a warm down session which doesn't actually involve a football match being played.

I think we have to be careful in our society nowadays, there are many initiatives to get kids active in sport as nowadays many seem to want to spend all day in front of a play station.Stopping any sort of sport from a local park is surely not helping this matter. For me it seems that people want to use the park soley for the purpose of walking dogs, which i did for many years, but for so many years it has been used by kids and adults alike for a whole range of activities, from football to tennis to cricket etc all of which are good activities which we as a local community should be happy to see.For many years the local hockey club used the Cricket outfield during the winter and it was never a problem then, reports that the cricket crease have been used are wrong,at least as far as AFC Hornchurch are concerned,i can't speak about other football clubs but its not something i have seen in 30 years of attending the park.

Everyone has a right to use the Public Park and as long as this responsibility is not abused then long shall that remain,i certainly don't agree that people should have to pay for the right to play football in a public park, its not all about money at the end of the day, surely its about people being allowed to use open spaces in such parks and enjoying their sport, whichever one it may be.AFC Hornchurch seem to have had a bad press over this,i would suggest to those who seem to see us as the big bad wolf to come to Bridge Avenue on a match day and see the wonderful work which goes on by many and the wonderful friendly atmosphere that the club has.

The blatant lies by some of these people used to get their point across is ridiculous. In one letter someone claimed that kids are still allowed to play in the park, well last Sunday my mates boy and 4 of his mates were stopped from playing football in the park
