Difference between us and Bury tonight

They took their one-on-one, and we didn't.

 

As in the game at Hartsdown, there was a cigarette paper between these teams, but we have lost twice, really does make you wonder what our season could have been.

 

First half we were very direct, launching long balls to Welford and Bradbrook. Had the better of first half, Pinno had a 25-yarder saved and Tom got behind their defence and forced a good save. Jamie played the whole game with an injury and Bury's most dangerous moments were when they played it over the top, JT was slow in coming out, on one occasion Hill made a superb clearance off the line.

 

Bury scored about five miniutes before the interval. Ball pumped into the box, JT collected but ref thought there was a foul off the ball. Welford booked for protest.

Penalty, 1-0 Bury.

 

Second half, we were less direct but had even more of the play. Key moment was when SW got behind their defence but shot wide. We kept going and levelled on 79 minutes. Pinno controlled a cross before firing into the corner of the net.

 

Draw would have been fair result but on 89 mins one of their guys was played in behind our defence and slotted past JT.

Well I have looked at those 2 alleged fouls now that led to the penalty and could not see 1 let alone 2 fouls. #16 conned the ref in the first place and then #5 fell over his own feet.

 

 

Must say totally unrepresenative highlights as well.

Didn't go, so can obviously only make some assumptions based on what I've seen / read. Firstly, never a penalty. Great finish from Pinns. Very sloppy defending for the winner - had a number of chances to clear our lines. Sick of hearing 'We should've won, didn't take our chances'. Get to training half an hour early and get some shooting practice in!

 

On the plus side, it does bode well for next season. We clearly aren't far off of being a top 8 or so team; if we can retain the majority of the squad, with a few amendments, we could be a strong outfit next year.

On seeing those highlights my opinion is that their first goal was from an accidental coming together of three players.Their chap seemed to just fall over though it has to be said Welford getting in there didnt help matters.Good on him for getting back to help but as a forward he should be extra extra careful in those situations. Accidental at worst but certainly not intentional. NO PENALTY

Second was poor defending started off by a bad pass by Pinnock in midfield & then a missed tackle by Ball (though he surely would have walked i.m.o. had they not had advantage at the time). Notice how Cloke & Ball were left out of position at that point with Cloke failing to go to the player who passed the ball & close him down,preferring instead to stand off him in order to try & block the pass.

Anyway,originally the goal scorer was in an offside position when the first ball was attempted to be played to him & the lino should have flagged him for being offside when that ball was played even though it was blocked. If because the initial ball through didnt reach him the lino decided to ignore it he shouldn't have done so when the player received the ball at the second attempt as the player had then come back from an offside position..

Alright its done now but they were two goals we really shouldn't have conceded.

Agreed, all of us there did not believe we deserved to loose that game...
