A Way Forward?

Seeing as democracy is on its last legs and threads that actually inspire debate are deleted – thereby giving the impression that some people have something to hide – I will say a few words before this thread too feels the editors knife. 1) The debate of the freeloaders will not go away until such time as the benefits of being a Supporters Club committee member (or relative of) is laid bare for open scrutiny. 2) Just what on earth is going on at the top end of the club and which directors are responsible for what? Leigh Page (Tuesday’s celebrity interviewee – c’mon Herts Blue get a touch of reality to that page we still have some players we’d like to know a bit about before they get chopped in the inevitable budget cut) admits he doesn’t know whether he is a member of the board or not. An astonishing admission but it merely shows very clearly how rudderless the ship currently is. There is no PR and there is no commercial activity, put the two together and you get the mess in which the club currently finds itself. The chairman says we need 300 extra (paying) spectators each game, yet what does the club do about it. You can work that one out for yourselves. But it is on this very point that our under fire Supporters Club could now gain a few points. The Board, and those fine folk who served the previous tyrant with blind faith and are showing themselves to be equally ineffective again now, have shown not the slightest inclination in taking any steps towards rectifying the situation. Far be it for a mere spectator to tell the Supporters Club what to do but would it not be helpful if they were to contact the Chairman to discuss ways in which this club can once again enjoy a high profile around the district and then rejuvenate the commercial activity which currently has less life in it than a Dodo. Discuss quickly, the axe is swinging.

That's a bit harsh, Head, just trying to mix the interviews up a bit. Anyway, it's a player tomorrow you'll be pleased to know. Being the part-timer I am, though, I'll be down at the 6 pointer that is bottom v 2nd bottom of the football league at Roots Hall, where's it's Family Bonanza Day apparently, and where they've got Lisa Scott Lee performing on the pitch before kick off, which at least means my entrance fee won't be completely wasted.

I always find it interesting when people criticise

from a position of annonimity. Perhaps Mr Head In The Sand should identify himself and let us see what wonderous and unique idea's he can come up with. Furthermore, if Leigh made the comments he did, then I suspect he may have been pulling someone's plonker. If Leigh Page is not a Director

then perhaps he should not be drinking in the Boardroom, attending Board Meetings or recieving minutes of Board Meetings.

For the avoidance of doubt, there is quite a lot of activity going on behind the scenes and meetings have been held recently, which have included both The Supporters Club and St Albans Youth FC. Various initiatives have been discussed and we will certainly be holding a "Dawn till Dusk" football tournament at the end of the season and various other functions such as a horse racing evening are planned. I have personally been involved for nearly three months trying to organise our Sporting Dinner at Sopwell House, which is almost sold out and on course to net the club over £ 10,000. We have also brought

Philips to the Club and they are probably our biggest ever sponsors. I could go on and discuss our relationships with The Local Authority via our newly signed parnership agreement, Arsenal Ladies, The PASE scheme and Oaklands College,

training in the schools, kids go free tickets

and school assembly's taken by Steve Castle etc etc etc. In short you hide behind your made up name and carry on picking fault in blissfull ignorance and I will continue to do what I believe to be right with a positive attitude. Please note I also have a job to do and this is supposed to be my fun and relaxation.

As Chairman of the Football Club, may I confirm that whilst my relationship with The Supporters Club is excellent ( Ian/Barry - you dare !!! ), I have no official capacity within that organisation. I therfore do not intend to answer point 1. The Supporters Club have their own rules and regulations which are currently under scrutiny and any proposed changes will be discussed at the next committee meeting and presumably ratified. Changing the subject slightly, we are still in need of stewards and volunteers would not even need to consider the issue of freeloading.
