Rugby 1 - 0 Slough

Not too bad a game from the performance side it was everything else.

Players tried to play their game and at times it worked well.

Problem was the ref was a total moron who did not have a clue.

Also Bateman made the wrong substitutions and it is now clear there are certain players who no matter how badly they play do not get replaced.

The other problem which Bateman has totally failed to get to grips with is the decent issue. Swift does not know when to keep his mouth shut - I would mind less if he was hardworking and had some ability, but he is lazy and only has average skills and then tops it off by moaning at his team mates and the ref. He pees off his team mates and picks up stupid cards from the ref - but as he is one of Batemans favorites nothing happens, he starts games and does not get subbed when he performs badly.

A game which we deserved at least a point for the effort put in by the majority of the team, but now down to 7th.

I wasn't at the game today, but can believe the problem regarding Swift and dissent (note the spelling: dissent, not decent!). Similar problems also exist with Sean Sonner and Paul Coyne, and is something Bateman really needs to put his foot down on becasue it could really cost us during the end of season run-in.

Not too sure about your comments regarding Swift having only average ability. He certainly has ability, but he needs to show it much more often. Remember Byron Bubb? He too had the ability, but 1 good game in 10 simply isn't good enough. Also remember how none of us were particularly sad to see him leave?

Not a good day today for the Rebels...

One shot from Rugby won it ! cant remember any other shots !

We tried to play football today , but everytime we lost the ball it was whack up field or over the fence !

We need to fight fire with fire sometimes and play teams at their own game ...we did against Aylesbury this year !

sometimes neat passing game does not work...

Their number 9 at 7 ft tall ..could not jump yet still wanted to tug our players shirt off his back , yet the referee only book some of their

players for time wasting ! yet we continue to back chat and get more and more bookings...

we did not play to good today , Rugby's defence was raw and did its job....

and we could not get a decent shot in...

sadly we were not the Slough of late !

We need 3 points tuesday to stay in the hunt for 5th place...

up the Rebels....

A very disappointing performance.

Both teams cancelled each other out and I can't remember either keeper having a save to make all game.

Whenever a move looked promising we either gave the ball away with a poor pass or made the wrong decision to shoot instead of passing.

A draw would have been a fair result but our defence presented Rugby with their only chance of a goal with some typical poor marking from a hopeful punt into our area.

Another game where we've failed to beat a team that are above us in the table (apart from Hitchin in the play-offs I can't recall the last time).

With some tough games coming up against teams that are above us I think it's a must win against Woodford on Tuesday.

I agree Woodford is a must win but our game plan has to be better than the usual " lets kick off and see what happens" Although Woodford have faltered a little recently its all been away their home record is formidable 14 games played and no less than 9 clean sheets Apart from a game at the start of the season when they shipped 5 theyve only conceded a handful Lets hope we see 100% effort and concentration on tuesday and 3 essential points.

Yes, referee was shocking and some argued he didn't change the game. He did because he denied us a clear penalty 2 minutes before they scored. We had a shot which their player blocked with an arm directly above his head.

Once Rugby scored they defended with ten men and if there was ever a definition of winning ugly, Rugby showed it today. That said, NO shots on target from us is simply not good enough. In fact, did we have many shots even off target? Lots of possession but no real end product today.

Tuesday night is now a must win if we want to stay in the hunt.

Byron Bubb was different though as he was quite clearly talented and lazy in every game to a degree where it was pointless playing him.

Which is probably why he now plies his trade in the Middlesex County League for Singh Sabha Slough FC. Interestingly enough, playing alongside former Rebels Chris Ferdinand and Rav Braich, and Sonny Makh's brother, who I work with. How the mighty have fallen!

Anyway, back to the game and it was disappointing. Rugby defended extremely well but our failure to break teams down is costing us. We again bossed large parts of the game, but too often a poor cross or through pass cost us.

There are no fundamental weak points in the team in my opinion; yes some players played better individually, but we didn't do much wrong in defence, where we also managed to restrict them to one clear chance - but we seem to concede far too many soft goals. Theirs was a simple route one punt to the big striker, who did very little else all game, and he nodded it on to their goalscorer who was unmarked.

The two wingers had a good first half but faded in the second - in my book that's due to good teamwork from Rugby who doubled up on them and also restricted the full-backs from getting forward.

Still plenty of points to play for...

We definitely did not deserve to lose that game.

We dominated the possession for most of the game, but we created very little in front of goal, I think their keeper did have a save or two to make, but nothing really clear cut. The ref was probably the worst we have seen this season, it seemed that we got booked for little things while Rugby got away with repeated fouling and diving at times. They had pretty much one chance and scored one goal. then just defended.

Yes it is a setback but it is not the time to panic. Plenty to play for with our games in hand on Rugby, and all the teams around us still to play each other.

We were so unlucky today, let's focus on getting 6 points from the next 2 games and get back on track.

Yes no time to panic after Woodford we have 3 consecutive games against very poor basement teams which should be 9 points We may think we have a difficult run in but its much worse for some of our rivals Leighton for example have 3 consecutive games against Daventry Biggleswade and Hitchin in 5 days ( Tuesday, Thursdayand Saturday) and still have to play us.

I think there are 'fundamental' week points in the team.

One being up front.

When we come up against big physical defenders we are very 'lightweight' and tend to get bullied off the ball.

The other one being in midfield.

Most of our midfield are ball players who like a bit of time on the ball to do the pretty stuff. Where are our midfield players who can put their foot in, to stop the opposition playing and grind out a result or two?

One was on the bench - Adam Logie. Personally I'm not sure why he has fallen out of favour.

Adam Logie is the type of player who needs game time to get himself match fit to do himself justice. Unfortunately he seems to be out of favour at present but I do agree I think he is the the only midfielder we have who can play that type of role.

Not sure how we were 'so unlucky today'

We failed to deal with a hopeful punt into our area and failed to create a worthwhile chance in 90 minutes. Hardly unlucky, more like inept.

If anyone thinks that playing Barton Rovers on a Tuesday night is a given better think again. They beat Beaconsfield today and recently beat Hitchin at Hitchin.

We thought the same about playing at Barton this time last season, and look what happened that night! Bloody lucky to come away with a point!

PS readingrebel: A word of warning - you're bordering on negativity!

I like to think of it as 'positive realism'

I think 3 out of the 5 booked today were booked for dissent.
