Racism

Twist&Shout

Recommended Posts

I was DISGUSTED to hear a racist comment today and I'm sure thats what the agro after the game was about (some people have said it was because the lad at the end was injured and was getting some stick - but where all the players ran over to at the end of the game was where the racist comment was heard)

I did not see who said it because if I did I would of reported them to the club and the police...

The player in question was Adrian Topin (their number 15 i think or it was 16)

When the comment was made he just stared into the crowd staring out who made the comment...I must credit him for not coming over there and then because if someone abused me in that way (I'm not black so have never been in that situtation) I would of gone over and smacked the person...so I think Adrian deserves credit for keeping cool whilst the game was going on.

I hope I never have to hear a racist comment again but if anyone does I hope these sick and shallow people will be reported.

I'm sure Adrian Topin would not ever come on to this forum but just in case he ever did, or any Carlshalton fan or player does...As a Margate Fan I apologise on behalf of the club

Whoever made that comment I hope you are ashamed of yourself...your not big, your not funny, your a disgrace..and as there was an 'older' generation of people around me it makes it worse....you should know better at your age.

Sorry for the rant, I just think its a disgrace and I'm ashamed a Margate fan was racist

There was also some unpleasant words between a Margate 'fan' and the Carshalton no 4 when he went down with a head injury ... the 'fan' was a mouthy 'youf' who was out of order all of the second half ... but there was no steward down the Coffinend to tell him he was out of order.

Then at the end the no 4 had to be restrained by his team-mates from jumping the fence to have a go at the 'youf'.

Why wasn't there a steward down the Coffinend ?

I was talking to some really nice carshalton fans throughout the 2nd half...turned out to be the number 4's parents and they were not too happy when the game wasnt stopped (to be fair his eye was cut, his eye is on his face/head, the game should of been stopped)...we will always get gobby 'youfs'....where I was standing...(next to the stand towards the goal we was shooting at 2nd half)..it was all people I would say 50+...they should know better and know racism is not clever and its not funny

and yes I agree...where were the stewards?

I would also like to know where the stewards were when the sniper kept taking out the Carshalton players. Given the amount of them that fell down theatrically during the game, he must have been a good shot.

Number 4 out of order at end of match and when he was treated for his injury was making provacative comments to crowd. Ref should report him to FA after intentionally going over to crowd and sparking an incident Did not hear any racist comment but if some brainless idiot thinks that is appropriate in today's society then they should ban him from ground. We do not want that sort of support. where's a steward when you need one.

where the number 4 went over to the crowd it was where his parents were...so im confused why he would make agro there...but also because the racist comment came from where he ran over too, and the player who was subjected to the racist comment was over by the crowd too...so i dont know what was happening, your right though wade, they should ban anyone who makes racist comments

OK after the comments made against the stewards you have to take the following on board.

We are used for the benefit of safety of the fans and have to be used accordingly.

We have to arrive at least 2 hours before kick off and get the turnstiles ready and the cones out to ensure the safe arrival of the opposition team and travelling fans and then watch for the arrival of fans and officials.

We then have to ensure the turnstiles are secured after the kick off and then take our assigned positions around the ground according to consideration to who we are playing. Some teams do have an element that have to be handled carefully as they have been know to cause trouble at matches(not necessarily at Margate)

Throughout the match we have to go chasing after the ball into the overgrown area, five a side pitches and the carpark (so pulled away from crowd control)

At todays match we had a Carshalton fan standing in front of the ambulance giving a string of four letter words at the ref and Ian and he was told to quieten down which he did until I as the nearest steward went away to escort the ref off at half time AT WHICH POINT he then delivered several sentences of four letter words to two elderly Margate fans. They complained at the firat opportunity to me and Peter Cove was advised. We then tracked the person concerned in the bar and he was issued with a warning.

Near the end of the second half the stewards at the bottom end (Tivoli Park Avenue end) who were watching the Margate fans were removed to help clear people leaving the car park so that they could safely get onto the Hartsdown Road and off home in their cars. They were removed as it was felt that we could TRUST Margate fans.

With a couple of minutes left I stood between the dugouts ready to escort the ref (who after his performance I thought would be subject to abuse from both teams)and saw the Carshalton player receiving treatment to a head injury seeming to react to a group of three fans standing behind the net. I personally had the decision to either stand where I was as the end of the game was due at any time or walk around to the bottom net and try and find out what was being said. I choice to stand where I was which I still feel was correct.

When the final whistle went we were not expecting any trouble between fans and players BUT when we saw something happening we were over there as quickly as we could and tried to disperse the situation (the Carshalton fan we had trouble with in the first half was there again but not necessarily the cause)

The young fans who were guilty of comments aimed at the injuried player were noted leaving the ground. They are NOT regular fans but if they attend the next few games they WILL be warned about their conduct AND WILL be banned FOR LIFE if they persist.

Stewards CANNOT act unless they see, hear or are informed by others of actions detrimental to the wellbeing of people attending the match.

If you do have concerns you MUST speak to the nearest steward so we can act

The bloke in the Burberry cap has been around a while, the kid in the pink jumper I hadn't seen before but from the off today he seemed like a potential problem. On the racism point, theres a bloke who turns up most weeks who was banned for a matter of weeks a few years back for a racist comment to a steward at an away game. Should have been a life ban.

Apologies Frankie. Did not mean to attack the stewards who carry out their roles without much appreciation from us fans.

Hopefuly an isolated incident and reference racist comments I would hope that any right minded fan would let the culprit know in no uncertain terms that his comments were not welcome (in a diplomatic way of course).

Older idiot with Burberry cap involved after the whistle, fat kid acted like an idiot throughout, he had pink jumper on initially

Well i think it's shocking too...Coming to Hartsdown Park with A Burberry Cap..Did he have a Staffordshire with him? I wonder if it was a canvey Island or Billericay supporter who got lost, or worst still our friends across the island.

I hope if the Burberrry cap is seen the Stewards will have it removed and destroyed..

Are you sure you are right about "Fat Kid" i can't say i've seen anyone overweight in Thanet for years...and was it pink or had the jumper be put in with a Rams shirt by mistake!!!

I was at the game Saturday - the kid in the pinkish colour shirt was boasting before kick off that he had imbibed a few Strongbows and the other boys who were with him were asking him to shut up but he was determined to carry on and was continually shouting at the keeper in particular at the start of the game and he then went second half up the other end where he continued in the same vein so it was no surprise when he got himself into trouble for saying unpleasant things to the other team's players. I noticed that he pulled his shirt off at the end of the game which is the sign of someone trying to quickly change his identity unfortunately his blobby, overweight body made him stand out the more. He doesn't come every week but was at the Tooting & Mitcham 3-3 game wearing the same shirt and behaving in the same manner. We moved away from him once we realised that he was a bit drunken and his other lovely habit was spitting which he did all the time over the fence onto the pitch. I think I heard him called Archie by his friends. If he appears again I will advise the stewards to keep an eye on him. Don't know what to say about the ref - none of them are of a high standard but this one was particularly poor.

At one point he even followed the away keeper to the corner flag to have a dig at him whilst he was taking a free-kick. There were actually Two stewards right there next to him as he lent over the hotdings and shouted his abuse, although non of them took any action.

it was pridders who was shooting them

Their number 4 was out of order although he did get some abuse (from an older set of supporters which surprised me) as he was on his kness after the collision (which seemed very innocuous at the time). Whilst he was receiveing treatment he nearly lost it and was effing and jeffing at the supporters. I never heard a racist comment at any point then. At the final whistle I don't know what the idiot in the burberry cap was gobbing off about but their No.4 definitely aimed a 'slap' at him, this followed with some of the Carshalton players coming over including a few of the black players. Is this when the racist abuse happened? I must admit I didn't hear any but there was a bit going on and a fair few raised voices.

The fat kid definitely needs a word in his shell like!

Racist comment was at about 75 minute point of the game pridders, may have been later then that..I just saw the player who was racially abused run over there at the end, I did run back but by the time I got there it had all been broken up

Ah right - I didn't hear it to be honest - (I stand to the left of the goals down the bottom end)
