Referee Assessors

Recommended Posts

Forgive my ignoarance but are there assessors at CCL games?

I have just been reading about the shenanigans from last night at Chertsey and it made me wonder.

I don't expect them to be the best refs in thew world considering they are at this level but chatting to a CCL manager whop shall remain nameless he said some are nice but just shouldn't be given a whistle.

Even the most basic of decisions, as in how far a ball needs to be over the line for a throw (all of it) is out of their grasp......

Those refereeing in the Premier need to be level 4 or above. Around half of those game will have an Assessor which is a requirement of the Supply league status.

Note that Division 1 and Reserves are not technically Supply level so the Assessor requirement is not there, and the referees can be a lower level.

Assistant Referees can be anything from level 7 or above. They are also assessed if there is an Assessor present and appointments will be made with this in mind.

I would strongly doubt that any official would believe that only part of the ball had to cross the line for it to be a throw, and this is more likely to have been an error of judgement.

Excuse my ignorance, what do you mean by Level 4 otr Level 7?

As for the "error of judgement", the ball was rolling along the line and the lino flagged...no error, trust me...

Having reffed the matches, albeit little league, where my daughter played for 4 years I would say the majority of those who watch football have no idea when a ball is in or out of play, seriously.

Level 7 would be a referee at the lowest level of senior qualification. They've done the course, passed the exam, and be refereeing on parks leagues. Local ones would include the likes of Guildford and Woking Alliance and Surrey Intermediate.

Level 4 is a few steps higher! (The lower the number the better). They have been promoted three times. Each time would involve the exam again, getting high enough marks and getting good enough assessments...

Plenty of assessors in our games this season. I'm even beginning to recognise some of the regulars now.

One thing I don't get about refs, and sorry if I'm going off topic. How come, on the whole, Suburban League refs seem better than CCL refs? I'm not counting the Suburban League Premier as that is also a Supply League, but the lower divisions.

Is it my imagination? Is it that the games are less intense so they're easier to ref, is it an attitude of players , managers & coaches of reserve football or have the Suburban League just got better officials to chose from?

At least 50% of the league games the referee(s) have to be assessed for the league to stay in the pyramid

And Teffers might be able to confirm that there was a new kid on the block at Meadowbank last night.

An assessor I've never seen before, though he kept very quiet and much in the background, unlike ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
