Controversial decision?

Recommended Posts

Quite a bizarre situation in the Conf South game last night between Havant & Waterlooville v Dorchester Town. Score was 1-1 when this happened and Havant went on to win 3-1, with Dorchester finishing with 8 men.

Without knowing the exact rules on this I expect that the actual decision is correct, although quite harsh in my opinion.

Be interesting to hear more views...

Eric Cantana found out that you cannot just assault a crowd member just because you don't like what they're doing or saying. Would think H&W could be in trouble for failing to control the crowd etc

Surely in circumstances like this common sense must prevail, but then we are dealing now with the FA to sort this out.......

Lack of common sense is killing the game in many ways.

Personally I think the referee is to blame as he should be in charge of the happenings on the pitch and he failed miserably on that count. If he was happy to stand by and do nothing he should have communicated that to the players, that they were to wait until the streaker was taken off.

Law 12 - fouls and misconduct

Violent conduct

A player is guilty of violent conduct if he uses excessive force or brutality

against an opponent when not challenging for the ball.

He is also guilty of violent conduct if he uses excessive force or brutality against

a team-mate, spectator, match offi cial or any other person.

Violent conduct may occur either on the fi eld of play or outside its boundaries,

whether the ball is in play or not.

Advantage should not be applied in situations involving violent conduct unless

there is a clear subsequent opportunity to score a goal. The referee must send

off the player guilty of violent conduct when the ball is next out of play.

Referees are reminded that violent conduct often leads to mass confrontation,

therefore they must try to avert this with active intervention.

A player, substitute or substituted player who is guilty of violent conduct must

be sent off.

I do agree though that he should not have been dismissed. It happening in another game a few years ago where the player who did it was a police officer and got sent off. Not sure if he appealed and if he did, what the outcome was.

Really interesting one. Ref had no choice but I think he should appeal and it should be overturned. Had an incident many years ago where I had to take action but didnt want too and the red card was overturned on appeal and I was thanked for my information that led to that.

Key word excessive force,Rugby should be banned then.Another situation where the rule is floored,or not covered. You are under law able to make a Citizens arrest, for any lewd acts of indecency by an individual. The handbag waving Granny was a hero for her actions,Mr Vickers is a hero in my eyes,he acted in the true spirit of a LAW ABIDING CITIZEN.

He's a centre half, think the usual clip of the heels would have brought the streaker down.........well it works on the strikers !!!!!

The referee got it right by law as pointed out above.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

If the referee had not sent off the player he would have been marked down by his assessor for failure to apply the law correctly.

Therefore the referee would have been punished for not applying the law.

The laws give little or no room for common sense, for that blame FIFA nor the official.

Just wondering - say a fan attacked somone else or stole something and was making towards the exist.

If a player did the same thing and brough the thief down, would he also be sent off?

Did he use excessive force? I don't think so, under the circumstances, therefore not a sending off.

I spose technically it would be Serious Foul Play, but I suspect most would still report as violent conduct.
