League 2 in Italy is on a par with the Essex Olympian League Division Three ,in countries like Italy and Spain there is no depth in their pyramid system,England is almost unique to have teams playing third tier football with crowds of 20,000.

When you look at the league structure here you have teams playing in the 5th league with average crowds of 3/4'000

Sometimes upto 7/8'000 in the case of Oxford/Carlisle

Even in the 6th tier conf nth/south it is not unheard of for the odd club to get 3'000 plus,even as far down as the 8th tier there are clubs who can attract 1'000 plus spectators a few times a season.

Castel di Sangro in 1997 played in serie B and was drawing crowds of 9000 when in the village there were only 5000 people living there.An American writer went to live there for a year and wrote a book about them.This club is based just outside a big town like Ferrara and probably has a sugar owner like the Chievo Verona in Serie A.Still is something remarkable.Rich there are 130 professional clubs in Italy compare to 92 over here and .......a few more titles as a footballing nation! On a serious note in Italy there are 9 Conference groups of 16 teams while only 3 in England which shows how strong is the top of pyramid in Non League footie in England.Point given Rich

If being professional you mean training 3-4 or 5 times a week then in Italy are all professionals even the Sunday sides!!
