vs Carshalton - What's Your Line-Up

What would peoples starting line-ups be to start against Carshalton? Shall we second guess IOC? Providing he keeps his 3-5-2 (that's the positive . . . ahem way of looking at it), or 5-3-2 (same difference, negative or shall wesay defensive way of looking at it - (they're still intrinsically the same)) I'm going for;

Turner (I know, I know that was a tough call )

Back 3

Ball, Cloke, Hill

Middle 5

Stubbs ( R ), Groombridge (Holding), Rogers & Wilson (Central), Robinson (L)

Front 2

Pinnock, Bradbrook

Would definitely give the Bradbrook / Pinnock combination a go up front. Whilst you cant fault Welford's workrate, he is not scoring goals and no goals = dropped to the bench for me and replaced with Pinnock

Pinnock seems lost in mid-field and has little or no impact on the game from that position, whilst up front at least he plays a part in the team - and scores goals

Will have to think about the midfield and defence as I think maybe a straight 4-4-2 may be more effective

Welford will come good mark my words. We should stick with him. Hat-trick Saturday for Sean. At the very least he will get on the scoresheet................... you watch!.

I'd stick with welford up front with bradbrook. Good target man, strong in air, fantastic work rate, must surely score soon. Only question for me is wilson or pinnock in midfield. Both have won us games this season but their influence varies from game to game. On balance would opt for wilson becuse of his dead ball ability

good subject and some of us are interested!

IOC will bring back Hill as he has looked solid and i hope Stubbs as his work rate will make a difference. The big question is upfront.i thought IOC was harsh to criticise the team as he did after saturday as although agree the game should have been over by half time with the chances we created i thought they still put the effort in.

The question is welford for me.i dont question his work rate but he is showing how similar he is to Bradbrook.i would give pinnock a go back up front as we know he can perform up there and in midfield he is ineffectual.Wilson should come in and his pre-illness performances justify it.

i know the perceived wisdom is give welford a chance but how many games is it now without a goal and he just does not look like scoring at the moment. His despondency effects the team when the chances come and go.Give him a well earned rest for a few games and see how we get on.After all pinnock cant score any less than none!

If all the team had Welfords workrate we would be ok, I think he should swap with Pinnock where he can come directly onto goal from mid-field rather than having to turn and wait for a delivery which I'm afraid has not looked like coming to often. He is big and strong will win the ball also difficult to knock off the ball when he has it. His has drive and enthusiasm which should inspire others, thats my pitch for Welford to play in the middle behind the front two, any sensible comments welcome.

A high proportion of SW's goals this season have come from headers. I suggest the reason his goals have dried up is the lack of quality balls into the box, not particularly any failing on his part. And in the absence of a Jimmy Jackson-type winger, WW is the best option for providing balls into the box.

Hit the nail on the head there CE. Havent played with any width since the depature of JJ. However, now with 'German' in the squad we can have some width down the right at last.

SW is needed on Saturday to rough up that dodgy centre half the Robins have as well. I think he has always played well against him.

The number of times I have seen Welford go looking for the ball on the wings or back in defence helping out it is not surprising he has not been upfront to put the ball in the net.

Bobby Zamora had the same situation at Fulham at the start of last season and had the fans unfairly on his back but once the goals started there was no stopping him, Think the same will apply to Welford if he is allowed to stay up front and be the target man

Funnily enough, we would probably benefit if he took a leaf out of Danny Hockton's book, did less running and focused less on being a team player and more on his own goal tally. Though, of course, people would then knock him for not working hard enough.

Sorry but Wilson and Stubbs, done nothing together for the last two seasons. However Stubbs if he concentrates on staying wide can do a job. I know Pinnock can be an in and out player, but up front he may be more in than out, that leaves Wilson on the bench. As for Welford he will score and more likely with late runs into the box from crosses by Robinson or Stubbs.
