What chance have we got?

Recommended Posts

Could one of our officials explain why the Farnham defender was not sent off in the penalty incident on Saturday? Was it because the ref thought the keeper would get the ball anyway? Just curious. Must say that we were honoured to be officiated by Mr Singh, who I think is now a Football League ref?

Tenuous I know, but was the player moving towards the goal - or slightly to one side of it ?

There is no reference to the "last man" in the Laws of the Game. The Law that covers this states a player should be red carded if he is guilty of:

denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving

towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a

penalty kick

Still, you can argue that a penalty is an even better goalscoring opportunity, which it proved to be

Looking at it again, he's going a little to his left and the keeper is quite close so may have gathered it. He was in control of the ball though, so could have got a shot in. Interesting one, hopefully not 'common sense' as for consistency i'm of the opinion that you have to give the decision whatever time in the game it is/what the score is etc.

Correct decision by Mr Singh, the player was going away from goal, and would of been unable to get a shot in,as the Keeper was in a good position. And maybe the said forward had no left peg.

That is why at this level I never sent anyone off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity cos none of you are actually good enough for it to be described as "Clear"
