ILFORD - Wow !!

Recommended Posts

In the London Senior Cup tonight, Ilford beat AFC Wimbledon 6-2 with Daniel Clarke netting three, Damien Devor , Brad Jones and George Durrant one apiece. Wade Falana and Ally Russell scored for the Combined Counties League leaders.

This was a positively awesome display by Ilford with Daniel loving every minute of the "big stage" - a joy to watch and a performance that any League Chairman would be proud of. Over 500 attending. The League Championship will heat up quite nicely if the Foxes put on more displays like this. <img src="/images/graemlins/greenapple.gif" alt="" />

Have you read the AFCW match report on the game?

According to their reporter the visitors sent out a somewhat inexperienced side and were then further disadvantaged by losing their captain for the evening on a red card after 40 minutes.

Isn't it interesting how the two differing sides' views on the same game can vary so much!!

Now this is an old chestnut that is worth responding too - being a Neutral at such a game, hopefully avoids any bias. There is no doubting in my humble mind that AFC Wimbledon's full first X1 are a veritable force to be reckoned with and will do very nicely in their league campaign and maybe in the F A Vase. They chose to play a "squad" side last night with limited first team players but I will not accept their scribes view that they were "inexperienced" - they were a good outfit, well tuned and fit. Interesting that the club should admit their "strength", no doubt the competition organisers may have something to say about that. They did have a player sent from the field but I cannot comment any further on that as it will go through the due processes. 10 men can be just as awkward to play against as 11 . Ilford, during the whole game concentrated on playing good, fast, skilful and entertaining football and they "kept the head" .. that is why I though they had done the League proud . There is only one way to beat so called "inexperienced" sides and that is 6-2. I will not accept that the pitch was "terrible" , the groundstaff had done a long hard job on it and , at least , in Essex, we know how bone hard they are at the moment.

OK as usual, these are personal views but that is what its all about and , at the end of the day, history will record 6-2 and will not mention any "excuses" and that, surely , is only right.
