Rebels 2v1 Soham Town Rangers

Two first half goals from Steve Sinclair sealed it for the Rebels. STR scored with a penalty 5 minutes from time. Difficult to play one touch football as you were always having to put your foot on the ball due to the uneven bounce.

Great game from Steve Perkins I thought who was immense at the back. Chris Herron also had a great first half.

Totally agree that Steve Perkins and Heeeezzzzaaahhhh were our best players today. Tuesday will be interesting with Coyne coming back, so Bates has a bit of a headache in midfield.

Funny match. Their only real shot was the penalty. First-half we played quite well and second think we came out thinking we would get 3 or 4, and in the end stuggled to get going in the last 30 mins. However at this stage of the season the result is the important thing.

Chris In some ways I agree with you, grinding out a result and getting all 3 points is vital now but thing are so tight it may well come down again to goal difference then we may well regret not scoring more against the very poor teams and all the silly goals we have conceded.

I think that with coyne back we will have an immense midfield. Hezza and Sinclair are in top form today and with coy and Byrne we have a top class midfield.

Mark44, unfortunately they cannot all play.

Great position to be in but someones going to be disappointed on Tuesday.

I think Coyne's a certainty to start on Tuesday so somethings got to give. With Heron and Sincs having such good games today, I can't see how they cannot start Tuesdays game so I think its between Swift and Seeby for the other midfield spot, with Seeby dipping out. Unfortunate for Seebs because I think he's a quality player and doesn't deserve to be left out.

First half we looked very lively and played some good stuff and possibly should have scored 1 or 2 more.

Second half it was like we made 11 changes to the starting line up and if Soham had scored a bit earlier we could have been made to pay for a lethargic second half performance.

Still, first game for a while and at this stage of the season any win will do and with Paul Coyne available for selection for Tuesday should give the team a massive boost.

The important thing was the result, the first half was good, the second half we took our foot off the gas, but overall it was a pretty professional performance which got the job done.

Soham didn't really create much, but it would have been nice to get a couple more goals to help the goal difference, but we have the 3 points which keeps us right in the playoff hunt. Same again Tuesday would put us in a great position.

Good to have the headache of who to play in midfield. Herron and Sinclair played well today, and with Coyne and Byrne coming back alongside Swift and now Seeby we have a great set of midfielders. Some big games to come so we will need to use all of them effectively, and its the same with the strikers, especially now Ben Abbey is fit again.

Well done Slough, keep the points coming!

i think that you will find that hezza will probaly give way as he has done in the past.

I disagree heavy trucker. I don't see how he can give way this time based on such a good performance.

No offence to swift but he is a lot better in the centre spreading the play and getting stuck in and Herron makes our left side much more effective as he links up very well with murphy. I think that seeby will lose out which is a shame also but he will be used as we have lots of games and everyone can't play

Why is it we never rout a poor side.Yesterday we had a great chance of adding to the plus column,in terms of goals and what do we do? concede a soft penalty and then make the final minutes nervy. We have the players/squad now to really take some these bottom teams apart but we never do.I know we were rusty from not playing recently but you would have thought that all the players would be chomping a the bit to play, given the competition for places we now have.

I,too, thought Steve Perkins,Chris Herron and Steve Sinclair were our best players against Soham. One thing I am finding irritating at the moment though, and I'm sure Steve Perkins is,too, is David Woozley shouting and giving orders to his team mates. I've no doubt Woozley will be a good acquistion for Slough but his two or is it three? performances have been nothing to write home about. I know he was captain at Windsor and Steve Bateman's bound to want him to be authorative but I think he should knuckle down himself and prove to his new team that he is a good player before undermining his new captain and the other players around him ie Simon Sweeney,Danny Murphy,Chris Seeby etc. I think Chris Seeby is as good as him on current form,I would go as far as saying he's actually better. So I think Chris Seeby has the right to be upset that he's not playing at centre half. However,I don't see him[seeby] as a midfielder and I find it ridiculous than Adam Logie is a sub [another one who seems to get the rough end of the wedge,in regards of places in the team].

Bateman seems to accomodate players,so he doesn't upset them.I can understand this notion sometimes but what's wrong sometimes of playing your best players on form, in their best positions.

I also wish Steve Bateman would get to grips with the whingers in our team.Burnell,Sonner and Swift will sooner or later get booked or sent off for swearing at the ref. Burnell got warned yesterday. I thought Burnell and Sonner's contribution to the team performance against Soham was poor.Still we got the three points and I'm hoping for better and brighter performances all round till the end of the season.Would be refreshing to see our management duo [steve Bateman and Dave Anderson] getting the utmost from the players they pick in the team and on the bench for the remainder of our games.

The gap without games showed yesterday when we should have finished it off in the first half - players showed the lack of edge due to no games.

Second half was poor and as been said Soham came back and nearly picked up a point or three.

On a side note, we played at Holloways park yesterday, SYCOB are playing tommorow, and then our youth team on Tuesday - good to see the pitch is getting a chance to recover!

Can't really stop SYCOB playing on it but you wonder why the youth games aren't switched to a different venue.

3spirit organisation is exactly what our defence needs so if Woozley can offer that thats fine by me if that involves him being vocal who cares. for ages we have complaints that nobody is vocal now someone is too vocal. can't say Woozley has done anything glaringly wrong in his appearances (could have been him giving the penalty away though was it not sure who it was)

Perkins seems to be the sort of captain that leads by example and lets his performance do the talking. think we should be delighted to have 3 really good experienced centre backs at the club. last 2 home games we have looked generally a bit more solid at the back and not open to being cut to shreads on the counter attack constantly though opponents ability is a factor as well

1st half yesterday was reasonable. we did what we needed to get in control of the game and 2-0 was a fair reflection of the game

2nd half we really never got going and im not sure we actually had a clear cut chance in the whole half

3 points is way more important than how many goals we win by at this stage though it is frustrating that we didn't score a few more. 1st half we was cutting through their defence with ease with quick direct play. 2nd half we played at a slower tempo and were back to needlessly trying to be a bit too clever and taking too long to move the ball forward

Could not disagree more with that statement.

It's about time we had some voice at the back. Before Woozley came and since Dean Harper left the talking between the back-four was non-existent, and in fact the only person in the side who actually opened their mouth at times was Paul Coyne. Think Woozley's introduction has made us look far more solid at the back and communication has been a lot better. For instance apart from Soham's penalty they hardly had a shot in anger. Just because you communicate and encourage it does not mean you are undermining players. He's played at a high level and his experience is envaluable I believe.

Completely agree with Ian and Chris, I was saying Saturday that it was great to hear Woozley talking constantly and trying to organise the defence. I don't think it matters who wears the armband so long as there is communication.

Having said that thought Perkins was excellent on Saturday particularly as we struggled to get over the line in the final stages and he would have pushed Sincs close for MOTM.

I felt we maybe lost concentration in the second half as we were finding it all too easy against Soham in the first half. If we could have got a third early on it could have been a rout.

Still three points is the important thing and we now have to maintain this form going into all the Saturday-Tuesday games.

Agree Martin, the results are most important thing at this stage.....especially if you compare March games with April games.

I think we need to aim for maximum points in March as we will drop points in April as we have a hard run. We need to go into April as confident and as high up the league as possible

Going in at half time at 2-0 I really thought we were on for a goal fest during the second half. All credit to Soham though for keeping the game alive, and

I thought they did deserve a goal for their efforts during the last 15 minutes or so. Thought the two central defenders looked great today, as did

Chris Herron and Steve Sinclair. MOM for me was Perkins. Well done Slough. lets hope for some more of the same on Tuesday (but not the last

15 minutes!).
