Waltham Abbey v Enfield Town

Recommended Posts

Final Score

Won 2 - 0

We maintained our excellent away record and this is a great result for Steve and the lads. Well done and thanks everyone.

Abbey seem to have lost the plot a bit with two red cards in the second half. A bit of frustration and disappointment with the result I guess !

Presumably that's why our coach was red carded as well.

Sounds like quite a night. Plenty happening and the 123 crowd getting full value for their money !

Waltham Abbey (0) 0

Enfield Town (1) 2 Stevens 21, Hope 60

Attendance 123

Waltham Abbey started at a fast pace and dominated the early stages with chances for Tyler Campbell, Steve Cawley and Amin Ibrahim all needing a save from Rob Blackburne. Emmanuel Oesi should have done better when Louis Bristow headed back across the goal, but failed to find the target. It proved costly when shortly after, his namesake, Leon Osei cut into the Abbey box and squared to Joe Stevens who slotted past Harry Ricketts for his opening goal for Enfield Town. It was the inspiration Enfield needed and they started to impose themselves on the game. Osei curled a dangerous ball across the box and Ricketts did well to punch clear a Dan Forward corner. Just before half time Jon Stevenson almost caught Ricketts out with an audacious shot from the halfway line which saw the Abbey keeper back pedalling furiously before managing to tip the ball just over his bar.

The second half saw Enfield start the stronger, Ricketts collecting a Liam Hope header to the back post, and a good move started by Leon Osei only being broken up by Campbell’s foul on Bryan Hammatt. Enfield’s second came after Jordan Lockie’s ball into the box was knocked down for Hope. Ricketts did well to stop the initial shot but failed to keep possession and Hope was determined enough to take the ball away from the keeper and drive it home. The Abbots rallied briefly, Emmanuel Osei running into Mark Kirby, and Campbell firing a good ball in to the box, but no one was on the receiving end. Hope and Hammatt combined well down the middle for Enfield, but Hammatt’s shot was blocked. Another good run from Emmanuel Osei saw him shoot narrowly wide. Ryan Maxwell then played a free kick into the danger zone, but Mark Kirby cleared as the Enfield defence stepped up to the task, but with less than 10 minutes left Campbell picked up an unnecessary second booking, making Abbey’s hopes of a comeback look unlikely. They almost got a goal back when Dan Harvey fired on the turn, but once again Kirby blocked the way. Abbey frustrations were compounded in injury time, when Matt Attard picked up a second yellow for a heavy challenge with Enfield’s Jordan Lockie, finally dashing any hopes of a comeback.
