Tonbridge Angels v Canvey Island

Recommended Posts

Would have taken a point before the start of the game.

We started a bit sluggishly and Tonbridge had the better possession without doing anything with it. To be honest neither side during the first half seemed to be able to instigate some decent attacking moves but we looked strong in defence and always a threat on the counter attack.

Jason took his goal well at the start of the second half and we looked relatively comfortable until the last 20 minutes. In fairness, Tonbridge woke up in the last 20 and played some good passingfootball and really pushed us back. We rode our luck a bit at the end but again defended well with Mooro and John Easterford excellent again.

Would say a draw was about the right result. Last season that was a game we would probably have lost so credit must go to the team for really digging in and producing a solid defensive display.

A very fair reflection of the game Yellow.

Some excellent video footage of the game can be found below

I think most of us would have taken the draw before the game, but as Charlie says, it is disappointing that we didn't hold out for the three points. We knocked the ball around well and scored from an excellent counter attack. They piled the pressure on after their goal and almost scored on a couple of occasions, but fortunately we held on. Russell made a couple of blinding saves - one in each half, and their keeper made a great save to stop Rhodesy putting us 2-0 up.

All in all it's another point on the board and a decent performance against a team who I wouldn't bet against getting promoted this season.

As for Maidstone losing 4-0 to Folkestone, they've got to be going down with this form, which is a shame as I've always enjoyed playing them over the past few years.
