Tonbridge Angels v Canvey Island

Recommended Posts

What do we reckon tonight then? The last time we were due to play them we'd just come off the back of a decent 3-3 draw away at Wealdstone, whilst they had just lost 2-0 to Croydon Athletic. They were probably quite pleased with the timing of the postponement a fortnight ago, and have since suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Champions elect Sutton United before beating Hastings United 2-1 away last Tuesday.

I'm going to go for a 1-1 draw, with Jay Curran pinching a goal for us in the second half.

Tough away trip this evening, i would be more then happy with a point.

1-1 will do for me with Leon Gordon gettting the goal

I've just seen that we've only won 3 games away from home all season - let's hope we can add to that tonight!!

Including thumping the Urchins 3-0 :) :excited:

I'm enjoying reading the comments about us on the Tonbridge forum to say the least.

I would stick my neck out and say they might be underestimating our ability to respond to last week's defeat, but we must bring our shooting boots.

Full-Time: Tonbridge Angels 1 - 1 Canvey Island

Other Ryman Prem Results:

Carshalton Ath. 1 - 1 Cray Wanderers

Folkestone Inv. 4 - 0 Maidstone Utd

Good result tonight against a strong Tonbridge side.

First 60 - 70 mins we were by far the better side, our goal was exceptional football finished well by my MOM Jason Hallett.

Tonbridge came on strong for the last 20 but we defended well and we picked up a good point.

Well done to the 30 or so Canvey fans who made the trip and to the Concord Chairman (Dodgy Hat)! and his 2 bum boys who swelled the gate!

3 winnable games coming up!

Felt the same after last nights game as I did after Wealdstone: gutted we didn't win because I thought we could, but know a draw is a good result!

We had the better of the first 70 minutes, but the last 20 we couldn't get the ball out of our half. Rhodes could have scored to make it 2 - 0, but their keeper made a great low save to deny him. We didn't get that bit of luck that could have seen us win, but a draw was probably the fair result.

Another set of poor officials which is getting way too predictable now. I have no idea how the referee waved play on when Jason was 'spun' to the floor in front of him...but they had a few penalty shouts so he was equally bad for both teams!!

Would have taken a point before the start of the game.

We started a bit sluggishly and Tonbridge had the better possession without doing anything with it. To be honest neither side during the first half seemed to be able to instigate some decent attacking moves but we looked strong in defence and always a threat on the counter attack.

Jason took his goal well at the start of the second half and we looked relatively comfortable until the last 20 minutes. In fairness, Tonbridge woke up in the last 20 and played some good passingfootball and really pushed us back. We rode our luck a bit at the end but again defended well with Mooro and John Easterford excellent again.

Would say a draw was about the right result. Last season that was a game we would probably have lost so credit must go to the team for really digging in and producing a solid defensive display.
