League Over, Thanks Ref

Recommended Posts

What a shambles this league is. After all the stunts this bunch of cowboys pull off, you almost expect something ridiculous to happen. If that linesman who was made ref in the first half was up to standard, then I think I would have passed the course with my eyes shut. When the bloke spat at one of our players and the ref didn't send him off - what can you say? He had no authority over the game, and allowed Hampton to fake injuries, foul, handball, and stand about 6yrds from a free kick throughout his spell in the game. It was embarrasing.
I'mm afraid I think the league is now over, because we need to win to games where Gravesend lose just to be level on points, and then they will have the superior goal difference.

Don't blame it all on the Ref(even though he was a bit weak) for us getting a well deserved point look at the amount of times your players missed the target from inside the penalty area. If they had taken their chances you would have won about 5 or 6-1. We don't fake injuries their was just alot of head clashing.

It was a well deserved point for Hampton yesterday. They seemed to defend with their lives! Pretty stupid of Canvey to fire high shots at a 6 foot 'keeper. They should have been hard and low, like Boylan's shot in the 2nd half which he fumbled.
Did the Hampton 7 have a price on his head yesterday? There seemed to be a lot of snipers taking shots at him from out of no where!!

A couple of factual corrections about yesterdays game. 1)Stuart McKenzie is 6'2" at most not 6'6" although he must have seemed so at times to you. 2) the crowd was nowhere near the reported 560, possibly 300/325 max. Why do Canvey persistently inflate the crowd numbers? Some fiddle going on or just trying to convince the Conference that you have bigger support than you really do? Surely they are not that gullible?

Always happy to accept factual corrections to any of my match reports, although you are correct is saying that he looks 6' 6". Without the opportunity to run onto the pitch and measure him I hoped that fans would accept the meaning behind my report - he's a big guy and high balls were not going to bother him. The match report will be amended asap - thank you.
With regard to the crowd size it's strange to hear someone criticise the club for inflating the attendance. There is a joke at Park Lane that club chairman, Ray Cross, regularly deflates the figure and puts a 1 onto the end. Your comment is the first I've ever heard from anyone saying that the club has chosen to pay additional VAT on imaginary supporters (£325 if we assume your figures are correct).
Unless you are a regular at a ground I would suggest that it is very difficult to estimate a crowd size. My own estimate (being a regular of several years standing) was 500ish. When I was given the official figure of 560 it didn't register with me that anything was amiss.
I think your suggestion of 325 is way out but perhaps it is based on some information that I'm not aware of.
Merv CIFC

Don't know where Hampton Fan got his 325 from. Merv is right, if you don't go to a ground on a regular basis, how on earth can you tell? At Grantham I estimated about 1000, based on the fact that there was nobody behind either goal. When the crowd of 1222 was announced I was a bit surprised that it was so high. However, regular Grantham fans have told me that there was a fiddle going on and the crowd was easily 1800.
Had I rushed into print and told them that the attendance was only 1000 I would have been talking out of my a r s e. Over to you Hampton Fan

Well said, Hillsy. Those statistics must surely put things back into a more realistic perspective. Park Lane has too many fans who see a defeat and assume the worst. On Saturday they saw a draw but still too many of them are assuming the worst.
Lets get behind the lads once again. If we don't, poor performances will be as much our fault as the players.
Merv CIFC

Strange how "wobbly" you boys get after a bad result.....................
Why don't you look at the league placings, hey. And do the math.... It really isn't all over until the final whistle, when the fat bloke gets up and sings (oooooo, will Kingy give us a song - one hopes not).
BUT, and a "but" in capital letters... do you really think the Conference will take you on even if you win the league. Gravesend have far better facilities than Canvey and if you do win I predict the reversal of the "Wealdstone/Canvey" decision a couple of seasons ago....

The league is NOT OVER, Come on lets get behind them and not cry over spilt Milk.
If we are already throwing the towel in we are very silly, Lets get behind the team.
Last season Farnborough won the league with 99 Points, The season before Dagenham won the league with 101 points.
If win all our remainding games we would be on 108 points
Gravesend lose to us the maximum they can acheive is 111 points.
I am sure both teams will drop points to teams they would normally beat due to teams playing for there lifes to avoid the drop.
This can still go all the way
smile.gif" border="0 smile.gif" border="0 smile.gif" border="0 smile.gif" border="0

interesting set of statistics hillsy, hopefully that might calm the nerves of a few on the discussion board who have already gift wrapped the title complete with a nice little bow to gravesend already.I had heard they were presenting Canvey FC with the OBE in recognition of the teams season 'over before easter'. now, my understanding of football was that you start in August, finish in May and the team with the highest amount of points wins the league. so why are people all ready saying its over? blimey if your that clever can you pop round to woolworths with me and give me this weeks lottery numbers!!

look at manchester utd last december, 11 points off the league and liverpool with a game in hand. bang bang ..6 weeks later top of the league. instead of moaning about ref's and the fact that the toilet door handle in the club house is not brass, thus failing conf league status rules on 'toilet amenities' why not get off your high horses and start showing support to the team and cheering us onto the title without blaming everyone else for the 'bore draw' saturday....
