Heybridge Swifts

Recommended Posts

I took a sneaky look at them on Saturday and they look a good side, strong with a real goal threat. Also they have had a good run of results so confidence in the camp will be sky high.

We will have to be right on our game from the start to win this one, any complacency and they will punish us.

But, so long as we stay focused and keep up the work rate, then a final beckons

2-1 the Blues :futbolbud2:

I like the ESC and I think we should get as many down to the club this evening as we can....

Previously, our games against Heybridge have always been exciting and tough. Anyone remember our 2 - 1 victory at their gaff a few seasons ago, when we played most of the game with ten players on the pitch? For the club, that was an awesome game where we supporters played as an important part in the game as the players...

This could prove to be our toughest game of the season thus far ! Two teams with a chance of making a final , one team lower placed so the pressure is off them . I hope we can attract a decent gate tonight as it aint often we have the chance of making a final .

I predict there will be goals in this one as lets face it both teams may aswell go for it ...Just as long as we go for it more ! :)

As for the coach from Heybridge , to be fair that is good.....i never remembered them bringing a coach in league games we used to play .

Lets have a few through the turnstyles lads n lasses :)

A real game of 2 halfs (well 4 halfs if you include extra time)

In the first half of fairly slow football without a great deal of passion we totally controlled the game and went in 2 nil up, a rare and apparently comfortable half time score for the Blues.

The Heybridge half time break must have involved a hell of a team talk and some raw meat because they came out all guns blazing and destroyed us in the second half, although it must be said that we seemed to be very lethargic ( Harrison excepted) and not particularly good. MOM Ashley Jones kept us in the game, without his saves we would have conceded 4 or 5 in the second half. Fortunately in extra time we were a bit more composed and Heybridge had a little less energy and big Ced popped in the winner. But well done to Heybridge for making a terrific game of this.

Couldn't understand the substitution with Shaun Beverney, don't want to be too critical but he was hugely disappointing for a player with some pedigree. As usual Harrison Chatting gave 100% and more, perhaps just a bit more composure at the vital moment needed.

Can't finish without a word for the abject officials. Harrison was well onside when flagged by the assistant ref so to then get booked for "apparently" kicking the ball away was a travesty of justice - I hope the management team include some appeal in their match report.

Well Done the Blues, into a final, where is this to be held.? And hopefully the 185 freezing cold supporterds last night will be swelled by a few more.

Enjoyable Cup-tie overall, in retrospect, with the benefit of hindsight. Particularly liked the way we let them have two goals in the second half, just to make a game of it, after dominating the first 45 minutes. I think we did that because, although the officials were trying hard to give the village team an advantage, they just didn't have it in 'em to capitalise on all those bizarre decisions.

So, a Cup Final versus Avely next. Deep joy. Hope Essex FA can find a venue big enough for us all. It's gonna be a sell-out.

Always easy to say when we win , but it was a hugely enjoyable cup tie and from any neutrals there i am sure they would agree . We dominated the first half and a 2 goal lead could easily have been more, and perhaps the halftime break is what we did NOT need . I guess some "complacency" crept in and to be fair to Heybridge they ran us ragged for large periods of the second . Again super stops from Ashlee and a good few timely interventions (notably Oates) . I have to say though the quality of football we play (when we want to) is a breath of fresh air . Both teams gave it something and that is a credit and fair play to Heybridge as they certainly did not have a give up attitude which made this semi-final far more entertaining for all .

No more that Craig and the management deserve getting to a final so congratulations to them for guiding us there .

So many guesses as to where it will be played and knowing our luck the FA in their wisdom will say err , "let's play it at Dover for a change" :)

Well done ALL ! Time to start spreading it around that we have a very decent football team !

So, onwards the team go but will not want to relax as big game again saturday ans some results last night were quite kind to us .

Come On The Town !

Well done the Blues. .could have gone either way after we dropped down several gears for the second half..... but all's well that ends with us winning..... now on to the FINAL.

We lost to Aveley away last season in the ESC R4, and in the league have won 2 lost 1 so far, we play them at home in the league on Sat April 9th, so what are the bets that the ESC final is on Tuesday 12th April.....

Or weds the 6th, which I'm led to beleive is the penciled in date.

A very harsh pen I thought, which amused the Heybridge bench I noticed. And I'm sure both Harrison and Shawn were wrongly flagged offside when clean through.

Second half, we started poorly and the ref and Swifts took full advantage, which made for an exciting game, and fortunately for us, we won, but didn't we make hard work of it.. .

Good performances from Ashlee, Ced, and Harrison, I'm delighted for Big Ced because his work rate deservs the reward he gets....Goals!!

and each game he's payed up front he has, in my opinion, improved. Last night his movement and effort put him into numerous good goal scoring situations, and I have no doubt his conversion rate is going to improve.

We're in the FINAL!!!!! dance%20%282%29.gifdance%20%282%29.gif

Its been a great season so far, :excited: but still a lot of football to play

Agree with the above. Decent first half display, created loads of chances and really should have been more than two up at the break.

Second half, Swifts, with plenty of help from the ref came right back into it, forcing Jones to make some decent stops again.

Could really have done without the extra half hour with some big games coming up, but there's a cup final to look forward to as well as the possibility of the play offs.

COYB!

I would just like to say a few words in favour of Shawn Beveney. He is a big strong player with a good sense of where his team mates are which results in him making good use of the ball. He has probably played less than 90 minutes for us so far and has already contributed one goal and three assists. On the other hand, another player I like, James Lawson, has been rather disappointing in the last two games so I wonder if he is fully fit.

I'm delighted we're in the final. Well done to all concerned.

First half was all us. We played well, totally dominated and should have converted more of our chances.

Second half, they had absolutely nothing to lose, were much more aggressive and unfortunately the ref decided he wanted to get involved too. I felt we wilted in certain areas a bit, but let's face it a Cup Final and a decent League position should be cause for celebration compared to recent seasons.

Not long ago we wouldn't have been able to recover from being pegged back to 2-2, but we managed to dig in and get the crucial goal.

It was good to see Barry again. I hope he does well now he's back there. Heybridge look to have some decent players, particularly the number 11 who was very impressive, especially as I was told he'd only just come up from ESL and Sunday morning football.

Moving on to Saturday, I would certainly expect Anderson to come back in. I think Beveney has done fine for us - he provides an option for us up there. speaking of options I'd be tempted to give Booty a start alongside Ced.

Well done again to the lads. Please win the final.
