bowers chalk and cheese

i have been watching basildon utd and bowers over the last couple of years, which team is at home i got and watch them, as we all know neither team is going to be winning the league anytime soon i know that but just enjoy my local footy, over the season i have seen bowers put in some great perfomances, beating burnham, barkingside, basildon and drawing away at witham for example. but today was a joke. new players every week by the look of things and who ever plays seems to play with no heart, one week bowers look a good side, but the next you would think they are a sunday pub team,i went to watch them play bethnal green and lost 1.0 but the 3 centre backs were like lions that game, baker, collings, cooke, i think, but where were they today? why is there a different team every week? i think its time for heavy investment in players or look to your under 18s and build for the future. basildon look to be almost in the same boat, lost 3.2 at hullbride and then beating bethnal green 2.1 today. what is going on ? somebody help me or i am going to have to go and watch basildon town every week

Passionate post mate. I admit to not having seen Bowers much this season (I usually watch my son play for Basildon Town in the Olympian), but when I saw them at Basildon Utd on New Years Day, I only knew 4 of the players, such has been the overhaul of players.

The "powers" at the club have been very supportive in terms of ground improvements and the Sports & Social Club, but now they need to get behind Colin and back him with the necessary funds to improve things on the pitch.

I know there are clubs out there doing brilliantly without players wages, e.g. Stansted (You have to ask what is Terry doing so well that he can draw players from London to play in Stansted? I can only assume they enjoy it that much), but Bowers have aspirations to climb the pyramid.

Onwards and upwards Bowers & Pitsea FC!!!!!

BTW, if you do choose to come and watch Basildon Town, make yourself known and I'll buy you a pint.

Smallsy, if you read this, you are a ledge son. grin.gif

Big mac im afraid i have to agree with you-Bowers are shocking and todays result was probably a new low for them, you cant really compare them to Basildon United as their players get paid and ours dont, whats wrong at the Len Salmon Stadium?? well its not for me to pass comment but their present manager is certainly not the only manager to struggle there over recent seasons, many others have under performed before him.No one can really criticise the Manager for his team performing so badly in a Ryman standard ground when most of the ground improvements have been made by him, he likewise made great improvements to Basildon United's Gardiners Close ground while he was there. Why do players come and go every week? apart from clubs with big budgets its hard to get any loyalty from players, too many in this League move around to be with their mates or leave after petty rows.

I agree with most of your post Basil-Don, except the bit about getting beat by Hullbridge being a new low. I actually forecast them to be top 5 at the beginning of the season. You have to admire what Rico has done there.

I think the sheer scale of the turnover of players at Bowers needs addressing and there are obviously other reasons behind these players leaving besides no loyalty, playing with mates etc. There was a rumour around 15 first team squad members have left this season alone along with another vast exodus last year half way through. They get paid money, the facilities are ryman 1 level so why would they leave unless all isn't rosy behind close doors at the len salmon. Just a thought. But one things for sure I can't see bowers achieving their ambition of ryman league football anytime soon. The table doesn't lie and it looks like the could be heading for two bottom two finishes in 2 years...

Essex Senior League - Crown Avenue, Pitsea.

Bowers & Pitsea (1) 2 (Martin Llewellyn 38m, Ollie Baker 88m)

Hullbridge Sports (3) 4 (Jacob Cleaver 8m, 32m, Chris Brown 23m Mike Shelley 60m)

Gate: 52 (lowest of season) Cost I think was £6 (I had a pass) and the programme £1 (adverts + league bulletin)

I was going to watch the opening moves of Basildon Town v. Bowers & Pitsea reserves first but that match was postponed (missing an opportunity for a programme).

On a quagmire of a pitch, with the ball becoming stuck in the mud on more occasions than I can remember, this match - between two of the lesser lights in the ESL - served me up a poor game.

This, undoubtedly, is the worst Bowers team I've seen since I first saw them over 30 years ago - they couldn't string two passes together, couldn't play as a team, couldn't do much right for all the ninety minutes! More performances like this and they'll be fighting Clapton for the wooden spoon.

In 20 years of watching Hullbridge I've never seen them hit four goals - not exactly the most talented club in the league - so this just shows how bad the home team were.

Sports dominated the whole 90 mins and should have scored another 4 or 5; in fact they could have been 2-0 up in the first couple of minutes.

Luckily the rain held off during the match allowing it to go ahead. The Sports manager wanted the game postponed but I bet Enrico's changed his mind now!

Look I don't know who this fella is as he says that supports Hullbridge as well but I want to point out that I didn't want the game postponed.I took the referee on one side and I told him that I didn't want to waste my journey and the prospect of a Saturday afternoon shopping with the wife wasn't great.I asked him to be sensible with the yellow cards, bearing in mind the state of the pitch because I didn't want to end up with 10 players cautioned and credit to him he was sensible when he could had easily dished out 4-5 yellow cards..We did have players missing as Ponderosa pointed out but I can assure I wasn't worried at all about because the ones deputizing were reliable enough as they proved it. I don't want to talk about Bowers problems because at the end of day is none of my business but I would like to remind this STATTO fella that we scored 4 goals against few teams this year and previous seasons as well.Probably he must have missed them because busy watching Southend United!!!

i might not know much of the inside stuff and basildon and bowers but i do know the players dont get paid, well £20 a game is hardly worth bragging about. the current management are stuck in a rutt, i actually like the manager but he needs money to build and push forward or just bring in a new team of under 18s and build, rico thats a little harsh, bowers have had some great results as per my previous comment, and considering alot of your players where in the bar after trying to get a move to bowers maybe you should look at yourself first before commenting on other managers

I know where I'd be putting my money if I was a chairman and it wouldn't be into bowers. I think they've gone as far as they can go and need a fresh start again for next season. As a manager at this level you need to have either buckets of cash to throw at players or have a few connections with good players to get them playing for you like Stansted have done. Unfortunately the bowers management don't have either of this as is reflected in the table. No one can knock the job rico has done at Hullbridge on a park pitch and no budget. He's got his boys playing with a bit more steel then I have seen in recent years and are now a difficult side to beat.

I wasn't talking about Bowers. It was aimed at the comments from this groundhopper that professed to be a Hullbridge fan for 20 years.About players trying to get a move to Bowers then if you noticed on our bench we had 3 that joined a mini-exodus 2 years ago but found out that the grass ain't greener on the other side and they all returned to the fold.To be honest Big Mac as someone will tell you players come and go at this level but as long as Coachie is still at Hullbridge I wouldn't worry too much.

Given that we've played 2 home games since the start of November that wouldn't surprise me. Bowers marshes are more suited to wading ducks than footballers.....
