With many of my shortlist postponed while in London, I made a late choice on visiting Preston Park arriving just before kick off and thankfully the game was on. The pitch was in excellent condition and certainly one to think of on a wet day. The ground has a low covered seated stand along the near touchline with 3 rows of black seats, although I suspect it was once a covered terrace. The opposite touchline has covered standing half the length of the touchline with a large sign "welcome to Preston Park home of the Hares" attached to the roof. The rest of the ground is hard standing. Refreshments are in the clubhouse located outside the ground resulting in a long queue at half time.

 

Harefield didnt play like a side at the bottom of the division. They looked good going forward but their achilles heel is a woeful defence, both centre halves turning slower than John Terry so any ball played along the ground they struggled with. A through ball 7 minutes in allowed Grant to lose his marker and slot the ball past the onrushing keeper. Despite this Harefield had several chances to equalise before half time but lacked accurate shooting. A change in defence at half time made the home side seem more solid at the back but they couldnt prevent Grant getting his second on the half volley from a cross to the far post. O'Connor got a last minute consolation but the new manager seems to have given Harefield a chance of avoiding relegation.
