Well, our new friend hasn't denied it. Wouldn't it be awful if it was him? Councillors have to adhere to a code of conduct. If, for instance, it was Dr Simon he has denigrated the club, it supporters and the people of the town. I'm sure that would get him into trouble with Standards for England, website here:

http://www.standardsforengland.gov.uk/

It could be that your guess was right or that it i found it so laughable that i didnt think it was worth a denial?

Must admit i had never heard of the cllr before reading this crap this morning.

Too many non league clubs have been destroyed by their owners who usually blame the local councils somewhere along the way. They lose most of their fans but some sheep like fans refuse to believe the evidence of their own eyes.

WHO WAS IT WHO KNOCKED THE GROUND DOWN?

So, let's get this straight. You have taken a close interest in this well-publicised issue, clearly feel very strongly about it, live in Thanet (I presume), and yet have never heard of the great man (whose name is all over this forum, which you have clearly been reading)? I suppose it's possible. Then again I suppose it's possible I could be the next heavyweight boxing champion of the world.

No i have not taken much interest in the issue. I have no idea of any cllrs name to be honest. Margate interests me though what an incredible dump. And the way football clubs are being destroyed interests me. As i said before councils often get the blame but the truth is usually different. I remember Margate FC in the conference. You would have thought that the club could have gone even further but the opposite happened. And the people running the club are to blame not the council.

I haven't taken much interest in what is happening in Libya. As such I haven't been inspired to join some current affairs message board and inflict my views on the issue on others. Clearly, the MFC development has been exercising your thoughts for some time.

And the people running the club are to blame not the council.

Yes, yes, we get the message. However, who knocked the ground down is in the past. What is happening now is an attempt to right the situation. You do seem extremely keen to get the message over that THE COUNCIL ARE NOT TO BLAME, repeated several times for us simple non-league folk. This leads me to suspect you are connected to them.

Well your completely wrong. I am not connected in any way. You seem if anything more deluded than that Frankie. How many people support Margate these days?. Do you think that all the people who don't go are secret agents of the council?. Do you still harbour hopes of winning a boxing title? Who knocked the ground down may be in the past but is it not still relevant if your talking about rebuilding it?

It is sad what has happened to Margate as a Town and its sad what has happened to Margate football club too. But lets remember this thread started off with a comparison between the costs of an Art centre and a Football club. The comparisons were beyond ridiculous.

As someone who lived in Thanet many years ago and who still has family there, I think it is a shame that people can't see the good in both the projects. YYY has come on here and appears to be trying to court controversy. He does not appear to be very well informed about the history of the redevelopment, as it was the ground that cost us the place in the conference, after the original construction fell through due to the construction company going bust. Yes, the ground was demolished, and in hindsight it was a mistake, but at that time the construction was still on. YYY berates the current board, but without them there would not be a football club in Margate playing at senior level. I have been supporting the gate for 40 odd years and obviously fully support the redevelopment.

I also believe that YYY is wrong when he states that the club will not have an effect on the local economy. With a hotel next door there is ample opportunity to attract people to the area for football matches, who may well make a weekend of it, especially if we can move up the leagues. There was also talk of a deal with a premiership side who would be interested in using the facilities for the football and the facilities in the hotel. Then of course there is the conference facilities which will be available when the Hartsdown end is built.

On the other hand, I believe that the Turner centre is also a good thing for the area. There has been a lot of talk on here about the cost and other issues, but its now built, and its not going away, so people should embrace it for what it is, an award winning building, by a very famous architect, which once again will attract a different kind of visitor to the area.

So there you are, two projects that will bring different types of people to Thanet which can only improve a very run down area. Its a pity that more developers are not willing to support projects like this in Thanet.

agree Steve, no point in making comparisons between two completely different projects, both as you say good for the area, look at the "Old town" lots of potential there and at last the Arcadian and building next door are getting a long deserved facelift. Dont know who YYY is and dont really care, he can say what he wants but is not a supporter of this club so his argument is flawed. Lets keep the faith, yes mistakes have been made in the past, "but there is no future in the past", so we have planning permission lets keep the petition going and fingers crossed we will get what we and the area deserves.

To be clear, the old stadium was demolished on the advice of the company the developers were working with back then. Then, that particular company went bust.

As for the local economic impact - 22 jobs (equivalent to 15 full time postions), £670k guest spending (Travelodge figures based on their experience of their existing hotels), maintaining other jobs at the stadium / facilities, enhanced community support for young people in schools (in an environment where these activities might not be funded in school), additional high quality sport and leisure facilities all in an economically challenged area and without the requirement for public money!

OK, it's not the bigest development in the world, but frankly, I would argue that anyone who says this development is not significant given the context must surely have some other agenda or has not taken the trouble to understand the background.

The club may have knocked the ground down, however if the council had not sat on a building report for SIX months before the ground was demolished the club would have received funding from the Football Trust for redevelopment. FACT

Plus if you have the courage of your convictions and have the balls to show yourself from behind the computer name we can meet up and discuss the matter fully then we will see who is deluded about the whole area of Thanet not just the football club.

Probably some spotty little 15 year Ramsgate freak who has curfews or ASBOs hanging over him. Or could he be someone of character and substance and reveal what his "real" motives are and why he all of a sudden has posted on a site to which he claims to have no interest in????? ....... doubtful. I think he is probably the 15 year old pleb with nothing better to do than spout off. - prove me wrong YYY.

However, it is all Irish to me.
