Town v Romford

At least we didn't lose! Phew, what a great relief for everyone that we stuck-in there and scored that late equaliser to share the points.

This sounds like a very hard-fought match between two evenly matched teams who are both serious play-off contenders.

Was this a fair result, and what is it about Brimsdown that continues to impact so badly on our home form?

its jinxed.

however good to get a last gasp goal instead of against us for a change.

Nope

Don't blame the pitch.

Last two home games Chestnuts and Rumford have found it okay to play on !!

Our problem is the Players poor attitude and lack of passion.

and

Lack of a 20 goal a season striker.

100% correct oldtowner, we give the team 100% surport now the team should pay back buy giving us 100% or more inreturn

Hold on.

The team owe us nothing. They have to play for their own pride not for us. We go for entertainment and I thought that yesterday was an interesting game by two top sides in the league. Rob had a good game and kept us in the game in the first half. Rudi played well in the first 20 minutes but then seemed to go off the boil until the substitutions. Hammet played deeper than Hope added strength to our midfiels so this seemed to give Stuart space at the front as the Romford defence, for the first time, became disorganised. Perhaps Steve needs to consider that tactical situation when Adam is not available. There have been a number of enforced changes in our line up and even last night it was clear that Leon was carrying a knock before he started. Perhaps that is why he was quiet, I was told, on Saturday.

You cannot have a consistent wining side without a consistent line up. In the space of three games we have had a different midfield every time. That does not bring about success yet we still got two points of teams who are not rabbits. We did not give up to the end and we kept hold of that precious point to the final whistle unlike Cheshunt and W & F.

I would have preferred a better outcome out of our last two games but you cant have everything you want we have not fallen behind W & F or Rumford but shown that we are on a par with them. The next game will be interesting and I hope that we get back to winning ways.

Look at the results last night. The draws by top sides indicate that nerves are jangling we have to keep our cool and play football as we can and we will get our rewards.

I have done a current league table without Leyton's results and we are now 7th behind Brentwood. Brentwood are a team that we beat 6-0 only a fortnight ago. If we win Saturday against them then we will go 6th. Maldon have only 10 game left againt our 14. We are 7 points behind them and should catch them in the run in. If we beat Brentwood they will have 12 games left and be 2 points behind with a far inferior goal difference. It is my view that if we win Brentwood will not be in the mix by the middle of March. That leaves Heybridge, Harlow, Abbey and Sudbury. We have not played Heybridge their draw against Needham yesterday demonstrates they have to be taken seriously. They are currently 2 points behind us with +16 goal difference (ours is plus 20) and we have a game in hand but that game in hand counts for nothing if they get two good results against us.

Harlow are two points behind and have 13 games left with a far inferior goal difference. (-4) We have also played them twice so I think that they are not challengers unless we have a dramatic drop in form which is possible.

Abbey we have to play next Tuesday they are 3 points behind and goal difference is fair. They could get a run together and challenge for a play-off spot.

Sudbury are also 3 points behind but have 15 games to play, they need strength in depth but as we beat them 5-1 at their place I dont think they have that.

The run in is all to play for and we can do it.

All we came really worry about is our team’s results and performance and if that's good enough it will take us to the play offs and if it isn’t it isn’t, we can do nothing about other teams results.

Steph, I agree with your rationale on the present state of play. One has only to study the current league table to see that only a few points seperate us in 5th spot to Grays half-way down the table in 13th position.

This year the Ryman Division One North is a highly competitive league, with a number of very capable ambitious clubs chasing the two promotion spots. It is going to be very tough to make the play-offs, and even tougher to win them.

We have as good a chance as anyone. We have a great squad of players, with a great team spirit, who in terms of ability, are well capable of going one better than that disappointing final outcome at Concord Rangers at the end of last season.

Our main problem at the moment is inconsistency. We have played some great football this season against the top sides, and delivered some excellent results, but have also squandered precious points in matches we were expected to win. Unless this can be addressed and rectified, sooner than later, we will struggle to achieve our main objective.

That said, there are still plenty of games, and points on offer, for our players to mount a sustained challenge for promotion.

Steve Newing is a very capable manager who demands total commitment from his players in every match. Unfortunately, as in life, things don't always go according to plan, and he is not helped by unforeseen injuries or unavailability of key players in difficult matches, not least the recent absence of Adam Wallace, who is a massive influence for us upfront. Hopefully, he will soon be back leading out forward line.

The run-in to the end of season promises to be very exciting. Nerve-racking, but very exciting!

Not a time for the faint-heared. It is a time for everyone to remain optimistic and give our guys maximum support and encouragement.

Sure you are my old china, however make sure you keep the place tidy, whats left of it that is after we've taken most of the ground with us, as remember we own 50% of it. :icon29:

spot on gazza and i hope they have saved enough cash to pay for the damage to the pitch after the cranes have been on there to remove the stands :97:

Everyone has different opinion's and view's some are deeply thought assessed view's other's have view's driven by their heart and sheer passion to win and nothing else.

it's refreshing that we see a range of view's above after a game for a change as it is expressing just how much people at ETFC care and that alone is motivation for Steve and his players.

I agree with Steph's/Littlehampton's comments above. The league table is a mess teams having played differing number of games to each other with team's having harder/easier run in's to the end of the season. Who know's what's gonna happen??? It is very exciting and at the same time I get nervous for the lad's before every game in this run in.

My view is that Steve has had a horrendous season with luck. Injuries brought us down to just 13 players earlier in the season which culminated in that dreadful run of results prior to the 'Winter Break'. That Winter break gave players time to recover and we have seen a surge where we laid in 14th place to 5th place and with getting only 2pts from our last 3 games we are now 7th.

My only worry is that Adam, Leon and John Moore return to full fitness ASAP as I deem them key players. Our back five needs to stay fit too as we are not conceding too many goals of late.

20 goal's a season man?? If you find one let Steve know I'm sure he'll be interested. They are not easy to find and they do not come cheap either. We had Walid earlier in the season who looked promising but went off to a Conf South side soon after arriving.

I personally have faith in the squad so long as they are all fit and available. Team's around us are dropping more points than I can ever remember team's doing. We've lost 10 games and are still in the mix. I believe we can lose a max of another 4 so long as we win the rest and still qualify for the play off's

My top 5 now are:

East Thurrock

Needham

Wingate

Enfield Town

Hebridge

And I fancy it being a ETFC v Heybridge final.

Ricci Crade is a self confident individuel who does and can be a mtch winning centre forward. He has proven he can score goals at our level and at a level above. what Steve has created is a squad system which if a team is winning the players keep the shirt, If Ricci is on Steve' radar he'll have to accept being a sub when others are delivering the goods as it will be the same for him.

I liked Lee Protheroe but he is one example of not wanting to sit on the bench and wait for his opportunity. Additionally, I believe the best back 5 we have is Rob, Jordan, Bards, Kirbs and Gio, Lee was under a lot of competition and it was'nt for him. Is it for Crace??? and above all does Steve want him and would Crace wanna come??
