Johnno Hits the Headlines

Recommended Posts

cant believe my picture that i sent him didnt make it in ........smilewinkgrin.gif

The whole thing is a farce but i do understand the rules and why the rules are in place. Unfortunately sometimes as in this case, the rules do not cover every scenario and angle, and therefore should be open for discussion and discretion. NOT IN THE EYES OF THE FA!

i was meant to be clear from suspension on Tuesday 8th March but as our reserve game yesterday was called off, i will now have to wait until Tuesday 15th March barring no more reserve games get called off.

and would you believe that 2 of the next 3 games for Cove reserves are at home.... our pitch as some of you know is not that great if we get a lot of wet weather. So how many more games could i be suspended for???? At present it will be 9 games, could it end up being 11 or 12?? That would be a record i think !

Lets hope if nothing else happens that this case may start the process of a change.

Didn't the Suburban League recently move from days to matches for bans?

A ban of 14 days may mean missing no matches or missing 4 matches so I think it's better to have a set amount of games for the ban but Johnno's case has shown that has flaws as well.

I don't know what the answer is.

It really should be a number of matches, rather than days.

Incidently, I note there was NO video evidence.

Where were you when you were needed, TRS ?

Sounds like the FA have been really, really helpful again,...coffee%20(2).gif

If it's any consolation I know exactly how it feels :wall:

The suspension was match based rather than time based. Suspension procedures at step 5/6 were amended a couple of seasons back. With few exceptions this has very much worked in favour of players. Two seasons ago a send-off for violent conduct would have probably resulted in a 112 day ban. Now we are talking 3 matches. However, there were some trade-offs:

- in effect there are very few instances where an appeal can be made, without video evidence, and even then an up-front deposit of £100 is required

- bans relate to the competitions in which the offence occurred. So a player who normally turns out for the 1st team gets sent off whilst playing for the reserves has to serve a ban covering RESERVE team league matches. And in the case under discussion the issue is then that it may take the reserves 2/3 weeks to play their 3 matches, during which time the player is also banned from the 1st team, and could therefore miss out on 4/5 senior games.

Tough, but them are the rules as all club secretaries will have known, and with a bit 'ducking & diving' it should be possible to bring forward some reserve fixtures &/or play away games to minimise the hurt. And if you look at the bigger picture, these changes have been very beneficial in 99.9% of all cases.

What happens if Cove Reserves never play another game,LIFE TIME BAN?The rule is floored but F.A.s would never admit it,as this case proves.Turn it on it's head a Reserve Team Player plays for the 1st Team,he sees red,he would be back playing before Johnno.FAIRNESS is all that is needed for the 001 percent.

Maybe the answer is not to get sent off in reserve team games

was there not another team member that got sent off in the same game against Boreham Wood reserves

will add that Cve reserves do have a game on the 5th March, and aslo one on the 1st march if that is any good to him

never ever been sent off before in 15 years of senior football so didnt really plan on getting sent off in a game for the ressies.

the other team member got sent off with 15 mins to go for a second yellow card for his foul mouth towards the referee. He has since left Cove, and taken with him his record of 11 yellows and 1 red card this season. I've had 1 yellow and my phantom red card this season.

and yes thankfully a reserve fixture has been squeezed in which means i will end up missing at least 7 matches, but could be more as 2 of the next 3 matches for the reserves are at home!
