The game started well with Town and Barkingside attacking well. Barkingside forcing a superb double save from Chopper. Barkingside then got a goal disallowed. Cooperman attacked only to be brought down by the last man – who had to walk. The match had barely begun.

10 men then not only held off 11 until three quarters of the way through the match. As the match went on Barkingside looked more and more dangerous and we all expected a solitary goal to seal it. Town fans were uncomfortable. Kevin Riley set up Lee Smith for a great goal 1 - 0. Cooperman was brought down in a melle of players and scored from the spot after Snowy went off injured 2 – 0 . Cooperman then himself went off with what looked like a dislocated shoulder. Keke St Hillaire came on and scored a lovely goal. 3 – 0. Perhaps a bit generous but that as they say is football. Jim had a lot of courage to play Keke after he froze on Saturday and this time he did not freeze to score a cracker.

Barkingside felt that the penalty was not one and a town player brought his own man down. From where I stood it looked a penalty and Mr Catherall had a good game!

3-0 was a little generous after "sides" gallant efforts, but as your man said thats football. Penalty, I dont think so two side players got tangled up and Mr catherall gave in to that one I thought. The number 2 thought that stamping on someone was order of the night as well in front of the side dugout. A shame really when he is quite a good player. Win yes, dignity and manner? without the fans they would be ordinary

Abbeynut....out of our four first-choice central defenders, only one was available ,and he limped off in the second half....Our captain was missing, and also 2 of our strikers(ulatowski-suspended,Miller-injured).

If we can sratch together, anything resembling a first choice team, and if Cooper is fit....you'd do very well to come away with anything on saturday.

Clearly the power of the lucky mascot was sufficient to overcome the curse of the orange socks!

The ref only played 40 minutes in the first half (I am sad enough to run a stop watch). Burgers were moderate to fair.

Fair play to B'side, they hit the bar early on and really dug in with 10 men, not only defending superbly but attacking us as well. What an unfortunate law it is that requires compulsory sendings-off, it spoiled what looked like becoming a really good game. The ref had no choce of course, but surely a free kick and a caution would suffice and we'd all get what we'd paid to see. But Town stuck grimly to their task and were eventually rewarded.

Good to see Chopper have a shot, too!

Yes, the score was flattering, but Keke's goal must be the most popular since Riley's first at Basildon, in our first season! Remember what I said about Keke...... this is only the beginning.

As for the pre-match and half-time entertainment - well, someone had to mention it. It would be ok if they sent their big sisters and/or mums instead..... could such a scheme be introduced at Brimmo? Naturally, I only ask because if everyone ele was distracted I could sneak in and get all the bread pudding.

I am one of those that believes the game should be played within the rules. There is no doubt that this was a "professional" foul with Ian Cooper free on goal with only the goalkeeper in front of him. With his strike rate this season would give that at least a 40% chance of a goal. I would agree perhaps that the player should be allowed to stay on if, say, a penalty goal was given but as there aint such a rule the man has to go.

I would also give a compulsory booking for shirt pulling. You see it more and more nowadays and it is no wonder players loose their cool if they are being held back by an obviously slower player.

I remember the old days with leather footballs and players wore boots not these flimsy things they put on nowadays. They played hard but fair. Not like current players.

Some referees might have given a yellow cazrd on the grounds that Cooper did not have possession of the ball, or indeed on the basis that a 40% chance is not a 'clear' goalscoring opportunity.

On the other hand the defender made damn sure that Cooper wouldn't get the ball and that contact was outside the area so he can't really grumble.

Was i watching another game,or were you,Tom S.....Cooper was running clear on goal(with the ball)when the solitary defender(who was 2 yards behind him, managed to grab hold of his shirt twice ,bringing him down on the edge of the box, thus preventing Cooper a clear goal scoring oppotunity.

I would also like to see a rule change ,where the ref could award a penalty and a yellow card.......Even more controvercial,How about giving the offending team the option of wether to take a red card,or let the ref award a penalty.

Of course the game should be played within the Laws, Steph. My point was that I don't like that particular one! A game is spoiled completely when a player is sent off, and as the posts above suggest the ref's decision could go either way, being an almost entirely subjective one.

If the ref had been allowed to caution the defender, he would have had to be careful for the rest of the game - he couldn't risk doing it again. As it was, the game was spolied for the spectator.

On Saturday the ref made a mistake when he failed to spot a clear handball by a defender on the goal line. OK so we were denied a penalty kick (and the defender woild have been sent off) but the game continued as an enjoyable spectacle.
