Play Off Doubters

Windsor Rebel

Recommended Posts

What has happened to all the forum doubters who said we would not make the play-offs as other teams have games in hand. They seem to

have gone a bit quiet now we are winning again. Not heard from Irish Adrian and Nathan for a while commenting on our chances? Only Aylesbury

now have a game in hand. Looks like it has evened itself out (as I predicted it would)

Hi You havent heard from me because Ive been in West Africa since the day before the Atherstone game and came back yesterday Im very pleased that finally we have moved to strengthen our poor defence and that we have finally taken 3 points from a play-off rival The Aylesbury result was especially pleasing since they had won more away games than any team in the league when we met them Things are still very tight and I will remain a play-off doubter until more consistency appears and more order and discipline when things arent going well(I have caught up with the reports) Im looking forward to Saturdays game having missed 5 games whilst in Gambia

Windsor Rebel dont get premature - on average points per game predicted forward we are still tied with Leighton in sixth/seventh position, although we do have a strong goal difference, which may be crucial again!

Realistically there are now 6 teams fighting for 3 places, they are Daventry, Biggleswade, Aylesbury, Leighton, Rugby, and ourselves - and at this momment any 3 of them are in with a chance.

So we are still only in with a 50/50 chance.

As others have said, with things being so tight we need everything to go well in the run in and that means having players available. We have to make sure our strongest squad is available from now so I'd hope that avoiding stupid bookings for dissent is high on the agenda for discussion at training.

I have never completely written off our chances of making the play-offs. I merely stated that the position after our defeat in the Arlesey game, that our chances of making the play-offs were unlikely at best.

After 3 successive victories (albeit against sides like Northwood, and Atherstone whom I believe don't have any paid players), and some bad results for Rubgy (who seem to be in freefall at the moment after 3 straight defeats since beating Hitchin - strange league isn't it?), this situation has changed slightly.

I predicted that Biggleswade and Daventry would surge ahead with their games in hand. And they have done. Seeing as they still have games in hand over us, IMHO we can forget about anything higher than 5th place. Realistically it is between us, Leighton, Aylesbury and Rugby for 5th place, with Aylesbury holding the upper hand due to their game in hand.

People also seem to forget that whilst Saturday was a massive massive result, we actually came within minutes of only picking up one point. We of course desperatly needed all three, but for much of the game we didn't look like getting it; though I wouldn't be as worried if we pick up those kind of results after those kind of performances more often.

That however isn't meant to play the team down in any way. I am of course delighted that we snatched the victory and that we can continue to look hopefully towards the play-offs. But we are certainly not at the front of the race for 5th place.

Even ignoring the statistics, Marlow in 11th place can still get up to 87 points and comfortably be in the play offs, so there are 9 teams still in the race for just 3 places.

This is assuming that Hitchin and Man City will pick up first and second places, in which ever order.

Looks like it will go down to the final game of the season to decide this years lucky 4 play off clubs.

Plenty of games left, plenty of points to win and lose. Nothings decided yet. Three weeks ago you would have probably said we were outsiders for the play-offs, Rugby were looking almost certain to finish top four and Arlesey not looking likely to catch Hitchin and look at things now.

Think we've signed well in Bullivant & Woozley and if we can get the atmosphere behind the goal back and all pull in the same direction there is no reason why we should not make play-offs. We have the side to beat anyone in this league on our day.
