ETFC v Cheshunt

Only four teams have a worse home record than the Town ------ Waltham Forest, Ilford, Redbridge and Leyton!!!

Barring one or two games this season why can't we play really well at home???

Very frustrating evening that was summed up when Cheshunt scored their second just moments after we had equalised - just one of those games!! Town missed Gunz (who has been most influential player going forward over last few months) tonight......

The next two games at W&F and at home to Romford could well shape where we finish in the league.........

There are some highlights to follow (not many)

COME ON YOU TOWN!!

Yep agree coldend.

Fair play to Cheshunt, they seemed to really want it last night and all I could hear in the second half was their voices on the pitch. They didn't stop

working the whole game and were constantly in our faces. We always look to play football which is a good thing, but I felt they had clearly come prepared for a derby and we didn't adapt to them or the conditions. We struggled to break them down and just when you thought we had nicked an unlikely point, we threw it away by falling asleep at the back. Their first goal was really well taken by the way. Thomson is a good little player in my eyes, albeit maybe a little lightweight?? and around him they are no mugs on the ball either. They certainly impressed me more than Sudbury.

You can't question our committment last night, as we kept going to the end, it was just that, for me, too many players were not at their usual high standard and this relates to passing, touch and decision making at times. A prime example was the last 5 mins of the 1st half where we untypically gave the ball away time and time again in a short space of time.

So, a poor performance but one simply for Steve and the boys to put behind them as a lesson learnt. Now to look ahead to the big game against Wingate & Finchley on Saturday. We are a very good side and a playoff position is ours for the taking.

Up the Town!!

From the home page.

You could point to our visitors' rather fortuitous winner—the referee's assistant adjudged the whole of the ball to have crossed the line although it never came close to hitting the back of the net before coming out again.

Shame for us that the assistant was in the position his was in to immediately give the decision. Whether it hit the back of the net is neither here nor there.

Thought Cheshunt were more up for the game than us and it showed and well done to them. Thought their number 3 was immense and organised their back four throughout the game.

We certainly missed Adam Wallace and we also missed a crowd. Where were they? Surely we are better value for money than Eastenders?

Cheshunt deserved their win but lets regroup for Saturday and get behind the players.

Agree with the comments posted on the Cheshunt match. Having not seen 'Town' since the turn of the year, I travelled up with a lot of hope and expectation that we would build on our recent good run of results and pick-up another win from a closely contested local derby.

Sadly this was misplaced optimism. Dreadful weather and appalling conditions apart, it was the 'Ambers' who bossed the match, adapting well to the heavy pitch and showing great commitment and determination. They dominated the mid-field for most of the match, shut us down very quickly, got men back behind the ball when necessary, broke quickly from defence to attack, and their wide men were a threat all evening. Our guys worked very hard, but all too frequently passes went astray and we gave away possession far to easily. In the end, this proved crucial in deciding the outcome.

They deserved their win on the night, but everyone knows our guys can play much, much better than this performance. There are lessons to be learned from this match, and we will need to put a few things right and bounce back very quickly, if we are to maintain our momentum and realise our ambition to make the play-offs this season.

Good luck guys. We are all right behind you. Go out and show what you are really capable of on Saturday.

Agree totally and having spoken to a couple of players, they said the changing room was somewhat shocked and very disappointed in themselves on the night. but credit to Cheshunt who worked very hard and took their two goals in clinical fashion.

A win on Saturday would make Tuesday's defeat irrelevant, lose/draw saturday and the need for a 3-4 winning games on the bounce will be required to regain control of at least a 5th placed play off spot..

One thing's for sure, Steve has yet again assembled a group of lad's that are keeping us Town followers interested in our season to the end, you can't ask more than that.
