Nigeld
I have just taken a half day off work so i could attend the game tonight.I arrived at the Stadium at 6.30pm to be told the game had been called off due to Floodlight Failure, although the majority of the Floodlights seemed to be working, two appeared to be out. On arriving, the electrician walked past me.The game had already been called off before this. How can this be let to happen,Surely a clubs duties are to its fans who bother turning up on nights like this, but it seems on this occasion for whatever reason,we simply did not want the game to take place. I was told that the lights had been turned off and then on again once......once,is that all? Surely because there are paying customers, some including a bloke in a wheelchair going down to the ground, the club has a duty to try until impossible to get the game on.Its not as if the fans of Aveley have far to travel, but to call the game off before 6.30pm is a complete farce in my books. On leaving the ground,i was talking to a fan who said that we had a few injuries, therefore it wasn't the worst thing to happen.Pathetic excuse, this is a complete irrelevant arguement. People wonder why fans are not coming through the gates in the droves they have before, well not being bothered to at least try to get a game on will add to it,in fact i will not be setting foot in the Stadium again until i am convinced that the fans who pay their hard earned money are being treated as they should. If we seriously can't beat Aveley with a few injuries then we should not bother thinking about the play offs.Sorry if this appears to be a bit harsh from a relative newbie on these forums but it has probably cost me over £100 taking the time off,a risk you take when football is involved as we know the weather and floodlights can pay a factor in games being on or off,but to call a game off so early and without an electrician looking at fixing the problem is criminal and stinks of dirty tricks to me,not the sort of club i want to be involved with,i thought those days had gone.It appears not.... Absolute joke and a decision made with no regards for the fans of the club.Whoever made the decision not to try everything possible should hang their head in shame. Eastside Urchin
I am sure that's not the case,as dagsy said the council had been working on them today so there was obviously a problem

Fat Tom Daley
I was at the ground and their was nothing that could be done. It was just unfortunate the floodlights didn't work
Nigeld
Excuse me for being cynical but it doesn't add up. Will be surprised if Aveley don't complain.Perhaps they had a few knocks as well. I have been in grounds before where similar situations have arose and the clubs have done everything in their powers to try to get the game on for the fans, this s simply not the case with this scenario. obis
Only 3 reasons for this 1) genuine failure 2) injuries or other squad problem 3) financial
Ground Hopper
your post would imply that it is only a 33% chance that it was a genuine fault. I tried to call the club yesterday and the phone line seems to be cut off, so hope it is not 3) for your sake. 2) is unfair on the other team. For me, I can always go to another game, but for you guys who support your club through thick and thin you deserve better. Sadly I have detected a sense of frustration amongst fans, might be totally wrong, but it is just a gut feeling. having been to a few floodlight failures I tend to get suspicious which does not help, as it only happens at any one club now and then, but when you look nationally it happens virtually every week and is almost impossible to prove wrong doing. The ref also would not normally call the game off so far in advance unless he is a qualified spark and knew what the fault was, he is only going on the word of the club which is wrong. The spark who was on his way may well have been able to fix it and the ref should have waited until kick off time in order to see if that was the case. See you on saturday. obis
My prognosis is based on two reasons; 1) financial 2) The long term personal commitment of those responsible for running these clubs I have not singled out any particular club. But just having some banter with the fans. Assume you are one of the main guys. When phone lines get cut off and someone mentions financial problems and flood lights fail and a game is called off early then it is too easy to make 5 out of 2+2 so my apologies, as clearly it was not fixed by the council and out of your hands. If you are there Saturday after the game, I will buy you a drink to prove no hard feelings.

Eastside Urchin
I think we have to put this into perspective, firstly, certain comments on here are the comments of individuals and do not represent the clubs views or what happened they are just views but these people are entitled to those views,I did toy with the idea of removing the thread but in the end unless someone in an official capacity asks me to i Will not be doing so.I have always said that fans should be able to express how they feel and this time is no different,if we take away fans right to comment on anything related to the club then for me it won't be the same. I am sure there was nothing untoward going on but I must say I was really p1ssed off with the game being called off as I was supposed to be in Hampshire all day yesterday and didn't go because I had football to go to.I was a little surprised more time wasn't given by the referee to trying to fix the problem but that's his call not ours. Let's just hope the floodlights are fixed tomorrow because of the presidents cup semi final,or worst still by Saturday as if they are not then kick off would probably end up being 2-2.30pm which may affect our gate as west ham are on the box at
obis
Fair comment. I was on my part not wishing to slur this club but making a general observation from my viewpoint. As previously stated my comment was without foundation but perhaps thought provoking. Yes, i agree once you start censoring the Forum that will be it's demise.
