So, what do we all think?

 

Our 1 full time crew is being replaced by a retained crew meaning 45,000 residents and 2 gas terminals will now be served by two retained crews and full time crews from Rayleigh. This means average response times will increase from 6 - 9 minutes to 15 - 18 minutes.

 

I hate to think what would happen if there was a huge accident on the Island:

• 2 roads off, served by 1 (dangerous) roundabout
• 2 part-time fire crews living within 5 minutes of the station
• Part-time police station
• 2 Gas terminals

Recipe for disaster if you ask me...

 

What price do we put on these budget cuts? Is the huge risk to life worth the (alleged) £1 million saving?

Tend to agree that the whole thing is ludicrous. The problem seems to be that those who made the decision don't live on the island. I can't understand why they don't get the Gas terminal companies to make a contribution or pay for them, because the main reason we would need them would be if there was a major incident involving the gas terminals.

Surely they do pay through taxation? I don't think anyone should have to pay any extra to have a vital facility kept. If anything, Essex Fire Service is being negligent in it's obligations to provide safety to the people of Canvey!!
