STFC in charity fundraiser

Recommended Posts

On Saturday 26th February, before the game against Ashford Town, Slough Town FC will be helping to raise £1000 towards Alzheimer's Research UK (formerly the Alzheimer's Research Trust). Alzheimer's and dementia affects 820,000 people in the UK, and many more family members and friends indirectly as the people suffering from it slip away to the disease.

My friend, Ellie, and I are running the Reading Half Marathon on Sunday 20th March for the charity, because Ellie's mum has dementia at a relatively young age. It is my 3rd half marathon and Ellie's first, and we are looking to raise as much money as possible. We are currently on just under £400.

Steve Easterbrook has very kindly allowed us to collect sponsorship on the day before the game. For anyone who wishes to donate, you can see me or Ellie (we will be in Alzheimer's Research Trust t-shirts) on the day, or you can sponsor online at Justgiving - Running with it...dementia. We would prefer online sponsorship so we don't have to rush around collecting money, but all sponsorship would be gratefully received.

STFC fans have been very supportive in my previous charity runs, thanks in advance to anyone who decides to donate. There will also be an article in the programme on the matchday.

Thought I would bump this back up the list ahead of Saturdays game!

We will be by the turnstiles on Saturday with a bucket for loose change donations and also a sponsor form for anyone who wants to donate larger sums. The link for our online sponsor page is in the post above.

Any donations online or on Saturday will be gratefully appreciated, it is for a great cause, and it is a long way to run!!

Thanks Matt. Hopefully we can collect enough loose change and proper sponsorship to make this worthwhile. My friend is coming up from Plymouth just for this event.

Ellie and I will be following up the fundraising with a 10 mile training run from Beaconsfield, through the edges of Burnham Beeches, and then down to Burnham, Farnham Royal and the Trading Estate, so it is not all going to be easy going!

Thanks Gary, very nice of you to say so.

So far we have recieved more than £80 in sponsorship from our publicity around this match, taking us over £400 towards our £1000 target, including £20 from an Ashford fan who cannot make the game on Saturday  All donations are much appreciated and welcome on the day as well as online!

Well as we all know the postponement of the game put a stop to today's fundraiser, however I am hoping that the Chairman will allow me to rearrange it - possibly for the North Greenford game on the 19th March, the day before the half marathon.

In the meantime I hope that anyone considering donation will do so online at the link at the top post, or by contacting me on this thread or by PM.

And for anyone interested, we still did the 10mile training run mentioned previously (in the heavy rain showers!), in just under 2hours this afternoon!

Don't forget tomorrow!

Our current fundraising total stands in excess of £1200, so we want to keep going higher! We will be at tomorrow's game with a bucket and sponsor form for whichever method people would prefer to give money. We have already had more than £100 from STFC people so far, so please be generous when you see us there tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone at today's game who gave us some money towards the run fundraising total.

The total amount of money (including sponsorship and the bucket collection) is £159.84.

Our total has now gone past £1500, with the run tomorrow.
