Mubarak stands down - good or bad day for the west?

Recommended Posts

Mubarak has just stood down from power in Egypt.

Is this going to be good or bad news for the west.

Personally I think it might be bad news, especially for the USA and it's allies.

But we will see......

What do others think?

It will be bad.

We will reap what we sow in that Western interference in politics and trade is all the ammunition the extremists need. One day we will pull up the drawbridges and let these countries develop. Islam is not to blame, it's peaceful but the conditions have been created by the US and ourselves for a backlash.

Not PC to say it but by the time we close our borders it will be too little and too late.

It all depends on the type of administration that replaces the current one, and if the events of the past few weeks extend to some of the oil rich arab states that are currently friendly towards the West.

If the so called more extremist elements take control and Israel refuses to abide by UN sanctions in the West Bank then nations that have traditionally been friends of Israel could find that essential oil supplies will be severely rationed, which would prove cataphoric both economically and politically.

Mubarak standing down may well be a good thing in the Islamic world, but probably not ours.

It's not so much what goes on now in Egypt, but more what happens next in the Muslim states surrounding it !

Israel will have to be watched closely, and I see Iran has stated they intend to sail two of their war-ships out on manoeuvers almost immediately !
