GUERNSEY HERE WE COME?

Is anyone privy to the result of the ballot regarding a GUERNSEY CLUB joining the .C.C.L.Or has it gone to a recount?

I hope that it goes through. Not having to worry about all the costs it sounds like a good little break with a bit of football in the middle. Just wondering weather the cost of flights will include some travelling fans, committee members. etc. or will they have to pay for themselves.

YHW - when Channel Island clubs were allowed to enter the Vase part of the deal was for them to pay the expenses of 20 players and officials. I don't know if Guernsey have formally announced how many they'll pay for but I've read 20 in one place, 25 in another. I've also read somewhere about them subsidising flight costs for travelling fans but none of this is definite. You know what the media are like - they find it hard to report hard facts.

Either way, it may see some clubs who are currently struggling for committee members / volunteers etc. get a few offers to join up in the summer.

Smudge - as far as I know the CCL have agreed to let them in but this is subject to the club's voting for it at the AGM.

I've been reading the Guernsey press quite a lot in recent months. There are regular stories on there.

I only look in here once in a while Nicey. I'm more of a statto/anorak so go on the NonLeagueMatters forum mostly.

Kroonz can't really speak for Camberley as he's never at the games :2fingers:

Camberley's chances of being champs - nil. As soon as we lost to Guildford back in the early part of the season I said I fancied them for the title. I still do.

Back on topic though - I'm looking forward to drawing Guernsey away in the League Cup next season.

I think it'll be good for the league. There'll be a media circus surrounding the first few games so how does Whitelaw decide who plays Guernsey in the first game of next season? Whoever it is could make a few bob on the back of it. How does Chobham v Guernsey sound?

Yes Nice Guy difficult to call me Camberley really. Very rarely get to go down there with other commitments. Did get down to watch the Ressies last week which was great.

I have now had the views of virtually all clubs, concerning Guernsey.

I am compiling a report for the Management Committee meeting on Monday 14 Feb (should be a romantic evening!) but will put some more details on here as soon as I can next week, once the Committee and clubs have been officially advised.

from a players point of view im not sure i would enjoy travelling to guernsey dont get me wrong would be a good day out and if expenses are paid for thats fine, but it would cause havoc with work commitments and players being unavailible , wouldnt be surprised if guernsey are half decent if they won all there home games

I got dumped back in the 90s for taking my lady at the time to a 5th round tie at upton park against Blackburn on valentines day. I think it was the pie and mash at 'Nathans' we went for after the match that sealed my fate !

Pie and Mash mate, nah taking her to upton park would have been the nail in the coffin!!!!!!!!

Not that i'm a pessimist (much), but Dorking v Guernsey has a nice ring to it or even better Guernsey v Dorking! Be tempted to try and make that one!

Would be great for me, TRS ! Got relatives in St Peter Port !

I said that I would provide an update once the clubs and the Management Committee had been advised.

Every club was asked if it was willing for the Management Committee to continue its discussions with the Guernsey FA, with a view to a newly formed club, Guernsey FC entering Division One next season. It was made clear that there was no commitment at this stage but obviously had the clubs been totally against it, there would have been no point in pursuing the matter.

Every club, bar one, registered its view and of the thirty-nine who did so, thirty were in favour of continuing the discussions with nine against. That equates to exactly 75% in favour of doing so, and thus the negotiations will continue.

There are now likely to be two meetings: one will be between ourselves, the Guernsey FA and the National Leagues Committee of the Football Association. This latter committee has, ultimately, to give its approval for the venture and they have to satisfy themselves quite separately that it will be properly funded and viable etc. etc. The other meeting will be a full clubs' meeting when representatives of the Guernsey FA will be on hand to answer questions directly. No dates have yet been set but both will probably be in March.

There is unlikely now to be any further statement from the League in general (or me in particular) until these meetings have taken place.

I am a Guernsey football fan and you will all be made most welcome if Guernsey FC are successful in entering the CCL. The local media have been all over the story and I reckon every game in Guernsey will be covered by TV. According to reports Matt Le Tissier is going to be the clubs President.
