Does anyone know the answer

I went to watch a game on Saturday and saw a young lad who I had seen before playing for a CCL club. I asked why he was not playing and he said that he wanted to leave the club but they had threatened to get him banned by the county F.A. because he had not paid his membership to join the football club so at the moment he had decided not to play. I always thought that a player could be banned for owing money to a club for fines (cautions and sending off) but do they ban people for not paying membership to a club. Also if the player leaves half way through the season does he get a some of the membership money back?

County FA's operate a Football Debt Recovery system, which predominately is for recovery of disciplinary fines/costs. There are a few other areas of strictly football related costs which are covered under the system, but 'club subscriptions' are specifically excluded. So if it was only a club membership fee involved then I suggest the club are using the threat of FA involvement as a lever for payment. As to whether the player should feel a moral obligation to pay up, this is another question. Many clubs rely on membership income to help balance the books.

As I've mentioned before last season or maybe it was the year before we tried to sign a player from

Chobham who wanted to come to ours. Their secretary resued to even discuss forms etc as they said the player owed money to the club . When we asked what for their reply was a car loan !

thats the clubs fault and the player should of been allowed to leave, the trouble is by doing stuff like that you are moving into a completely different field, are Chobham a registered loan company etc. did the said player have a legally binding contract for repayment he could of walked away without paying a penny and said it was a gift, it really is going into dodgey territory and football clubs are not there to give people car loans.
