FA in insurance scandal for non-league players

Recommended Posts

all clubs have insurance but with most the cover is limited it would cost a fortune to have full cover.

This whole thing sounds like it's leading to a conclusion of let's stop playing football because we're not insured to the nines! This is the same nonsense that says that my kids can't play outside school in winter because they might slip and sue the school. Do any of us get involved in football in the hope that we get injured and get a massive pay-off? This is non-league, get real and man up, people play at this level for the love of the game, not the love of money. No-one wants to see anyone get hurt but if the love of insurance counts higher than playing a game then lets kiss goodbye to non-league football and decimate the number of clubs in this country. With less money about clubs need less regulation and fiscal control not being told that they have to pay premiership outgoings for ESL players....

The problem is Ponderosa that non league clubs are being decimated, mainly because there's to many clubs which makes far to many of them financially unsustainable. I assume you wouldn't drive a car while uninsured, or expect your employer not to have appropriate insurance for you, so why is it OK for non league footballers to be treated like second class citizens.

Maybe one answer would be if the greedy premiership clubs were made to pay a percentage of players wages into a FA regulated bond which would cover player at all levels, instead of lining the pockets of equally greedy agents.

Alan that's rubbish, there is not too many non league teams,if there were too many non league teams there wouldn't be enough players to go around which there are.

If players want insurance let them take it out but let that be up to them not the clubs

If a non league player plays for the love of the game for little or no money then surely he should be covered if he gets injured. Giving your time for nothing at little or no fininacial benefit, to then get injured, your club won't pay for insurance so you get nowt even though you can't work is a bit ironic don't you think?

If I go on holiday,I pay insurance in case anything happens, the holiday firm who I am giving money to,don't pay my insurance

If footballers want to play football at a decent standard then them having insurance to cover for injury should be up to them, football clubs are struggling as it is,why give them extra costs to cripple them more.I bet if players had to pay for their own insurance, those who choose to take it up wouldn't be much higher than 50%

I just don't understand why you deny your players the employment rights that you would expect for yourself. Any decent company or football clubs first priority should be the safety and well being of its employees/supporters which also makes good business sense as it in theory lifts morale and hopefully increases productivity/performances. I would imagine that most of your players have financial commitments and even a few weeks loss of earnings could be catastrophic for them, and as most of them are probably being paid a fraction of their true worth, it almost beggars belief that you not only expect 100% commitment, but you also expect them to pay for their own insurance as well.

They are non league players,95% probably have jobs,if they take out their own insurance then they will be covered

Why should football clubs of the size of many non league clubs suddenly have to pay, what's to say a player gets a slight knock, goes home, slips over at home, the injury becomes worse,he doesn't tell anyone but claims for that injury,he then leaves the club but carries on claiming off the clubs insurance for weeks if not months

Soon you will have clubs not being able to afford insurance and being closed down

Then it would be just like football imitating nature, a natural culling in overpopulated areas. In my honest opinion, clubs, or any other business that are unable to afford insurance deserve to be closed down

We are obviously going to disagree on this, you are coming from a union angle, being the naughty little lefty you are and I despise unions therefore I shall agree to disagree

Thanks to those despicable unions this naughty old lefty is living a rather privileged lifestyle. Nothing is too good for the working class as far as I'm concerned.

The principal of it is fine, but I just can't see how it can be implemented properly,it will end up costing clubs a fortune and kill many clubs off which no one wants.

If anyone should pay,it should be the FA not the clubs, let's face it many players play for 4/5 clubs a season

I can remember twice this season after a nasty malicious tackle, muttering to myself, "f%*k me, does he not give a t%*s that people have got to go to work on Monday morning? These are the moments I think that there needs to be some form of safety net for victims.

If those tackles had caused damage (thankfully they didn't), can the damaged bring charges of assault and or lawsuit against the player and/or even their club? Maybe that's where insurance comes into play?

100%, there is plenty of money in the FA, they are always harping about grass roots this and grass roots that, but then wont that be like the bad old union days? If not then players should definitely have their own insurance, money is so tight, clubs are folding all over the place and this extra financial burden could be the final nail in the coffin for our beloved non league game!!
