What are we all going to do today?

I've woke up early this morning (ok, I couldn't sleep whilst the missus is still sleeping) and the enormity and loss of not watching the Royalists has really hit home, the trip today to Leamington was one I was really looking forward too. The point of my post is really to get an idea of whether people will take time-out from football for the rest of the season or maybe take in matches at other grounds at various levels until football in Windsor hopefully returns for the new season. Personally i'm going to watch a match somewhere different each week but the feeling of doing that will be tinged by a lot of sadness as the WEFC are no longer with us. The club is dead, long live the club.

Myself, Dog and his nipper talk a walk to Eton Wick. We had a very nice curry in the curry house opposite and watched the first half in very difficult conditions and saw EW 2-0 down at half time and looking well beaten. We came in at half time to see football on a pull down projector, Football First on athe lagre plasma screen and the footy on the telly behind the bar. The killer here was the bar was half full for most of the second half, we could watch the footy thorugh the large windows, enjoy a beer and premier footy on the big screen. Clearly people had come down to watch the footy on the telly and with beer (and good beer at that) at a very reasonable price (3 pints for £8!!) you could see why. Very well equiped clubhouse and very pleasant to be in. Not sure I could watch Eton Wick every week but for a place to go it was thoroughly enjoyable, when the players came in and all stayed for a couple of drinks the place was buzzing and overflowing with a cracking atmosphere. Considering I could walk there it is an option I would take up again this season

Me & Geggy went over the Duke of York and threw some arrows. The Rugby was on the TV and the footy scores were on another screen. Surprisingly it was pretty busy in there. It still felt alien not watching live sport. I had toiled with the idea of going to Eton Wick, but without sounding like a football snob I think step6 is the lowest I'm prepared to pay to watch.

I hadn't realised the bookmakers down the road had shut down. That's the Stag, The footy Club and Coral's all gone from the same section of St Leonard Road, It’s like living up north!

Know how you feel Mrs Cat! That Corals was our local betting shop we have to go all the way up the other end of Dedworth to get a bet on now!

I have already visited Ascot United early on this in their game v Shrivenham. A very friendly little club, good football and a lovely clubhouse containg a super teabar. Really well worth a visit. I popped along to Basingstoke Town v Dover Athletic on Saturday and Kingstonian v Croydon Athletic on Sunday. To be honest the football quality in both games was not great although I did see 8 goals in total over the two games so it wasn't all bad. It has made realise over the weekend how much I am missing Stag Meadow and all the usual faces, hopefully in whatever guise football at Windsor will be back next season.

I'd welcome any offers to come and do some work down at the Meadow : painting, car park surface repairs, fence treatment, vegetation to kill and remove, terraces to clean, waste to remove/burn, turnstiles to paint, storage cabin to paint, etc. There's no magic wand - it all takes a lot of effort. If we want the place to look as good as possible for next August, now's the time to start. The more of us who do it, the quicker it gets done and the more we achieve.

Next Working Party is on Saturday Feb 26th from 0930 until lunchtime. You'll need gloves, spade, fork, rake, old paintbrushes for masonry painting and fence treatment. Bring a flask of coffee. Oh, and bags of enthusiasm!
