Match report from the FTFC website.....

t was a case of third time lucky for this fixture with Farnham not sealing all three points until wide man Luke Whiddett struck home in injury time to secure top spot.

It was a dire first half at The Memorial Ground with Farnham underperforming in almost every area, creating no clear cut chances, with just a few shots from outside the box. The first of these tame efforts came 15 minutes in. Luke Whidett the guilty man of firing wide from 18 yards after Farnborough failed to clear a corner and Mark Corbett's initial shot was blocked. Three minutes later saw Ben Williams overlap Whiddett down the left flank and his deep delivery found Jack Dillon at the far post, whose effort was headed goalwards by Corbett but again, this failed to trouble the goalkeeper.

In the 25th minute it was Neville Tuck's chance to shoot wide from distance as neither side had a hold of the game.

HT: FTFC 0-0 Farnborough NE

Thankfully the second half was an immediate improvement on the first half, realistically, it had to be. Corbett tested the goalkeeper in the 46th minute with a sharp turn but his strike was straight at the keeper who held well. Then in the 48th minute Luke Whiddett shot over from 19 yards after the ball broke to him from a Farnham attack. Less than a minute later it was Johnny Horner who made the keeper work with an effort from 15 yards but again, the quality in the final third was hardly something to get excited about. But this was all soon to change. Maybe not in the way Farnham expected but, it definitely brought the game to life.

In the 51st minute, when the 6 minutes in the second half had already been more impressive and exciting than the 45 we had in the first half, Farnham were again the architects of their own downfall.

Ben Williams had bombed on down the left and played Luke Whiddett, who lost the ball in possession and Farnborough broke quickly but the move seemed to take an eternity to watch as the ball got played over Wheeler and Wilson and the striker turned inside and struck a well placed shot to beat Brock inside his near post. Game on.

To goal rejuvinated Farnborough and put Farnham in a situation where their 15 match unbeaten run in the league, looked in danger of coming to an abrupt end, however slowly butsurely Farnham managed to get a grip of the game and started to press the visitors back in their own half. Without any clear cut chances and the game entering the final quarter, a goal mouth scramblein the 70th minute, resulted in a shot from a corner that was handled on the line by a Farnborough player. With so many bodies in the box it was hard to tell who had illegally stopped the ball but the referee was quick to go to his pocket and give the visiting number 9 an early bath, thus passing Farnham a get out of jail card, back into the match with a penalty and then 20 minutes against ten men to find another goal.

Mark Corbett stepped up and smashed the ball home for his 20th league goal of the season and now Farnham wanted to play. Five minutes later, a tiring Farnborough NE side lost possession and shape, allowing Mark Corbett to travel with the ball, and with options left and right he decided to go alone and from fully 25 yards out in the centre of goal he lashed the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal to complete a smash and grab five minutes, that brought his goals tally to 30 for the season and in some style.

Farnham finally looked in control of the match and rode out the last 15 minutes of the match without much of note, and it was left to Luke Whiddett to cut inside and strike across the goalkeeper in injury time, finding the far corner of the net to secure all three points and continue their good league run.
