Who would be a Referee?

I stand to be corrected here, but my sources tell me that their are 43 Referee's Level 4,to cover 10 Saturday Fixtures, plus a few Midweek Fixtures in the C.C.L PREMIER.Where as a Level 5 Referee can run a line in a Premier game,Referee a Div 1 Game,or assess a Level 4 Referee.By my mathematics this means that if shared equally around,a LEVEL 4 referee can only expect 2 games maximum per month.Hardly good for Fitness Levels,Morale, and their Pocket.Does this issue need to be addressed,by the F.A.,I think so.

In theory yes. What you have to remember is that number are needed to officiate at the level up so we have to have that number. Personally what I would do is to change Level 6 (Div 1) to the same grading so the games on there can count too.

Do referees makes things up then? surely not.

I am also sure that neither managers or players would do that either???

Please tell me if I am wrong

yep, work out the maths, assuming 40 premier matches a month over 10 months gives 400 matches.. (approx the total matches to be played in the premier division each season).. assuming some of the 43 refs drop out due to injury/ work commitments, that means the remaining 40 level 4 refs get 1 match on average a month as a level 4 referee, 10 matches in a season. (they act as an assistant refs to level 3 refs a lot, too in the leagues above cc)

krooner's idea seems sensible.. if you 're reffing on average once a month it must be easy to get 'rusty'.

Level 7 and 6 referees can also run the line on all CCFL games. Whether they are appointed to Prem games will depend upon assessments etc though (or just to make up the numbers!)

MEWC AND KROONZZZ , I'M SURE WE'VE HIT THIS SUBJECT BEFORE, BUT DO EITHER OF YOU HONESTLY KNOW WHY REF'S ACTUALLY KNOW WHEN THEY ARE BEING ASSESSED ? WHAT IS THE POINT IN THAT ?

A REF SHOULD CONTROL THE GAME AS HE FEELS FIT ''WITHOUT'' KNOWING HE IS BEING ASSESSED, THEN THE ASSESSOR CAN INFORM HIM WHERE HE'S GOING WRONG AND WHAT BAD HABITS HE HAS. I AM SURE THAT THE REF WILL BENEFIT MORE SO THAN BEING NERVOUS (MAYBE) AND OFFICIATES BY BEING TOO FUSSY AND DISHING OUT CARDS ALL OVER THE PLACE, WHERE HE WOULD PROBABLY JUST HAVE A WORD WITH THE PLAYER WITHOUT BOOKING. TO ME REFS ARE SCARED OF MAKING A MISTAKE, I ACTUALLY FEEL FOR THEM AS IT NEAR ON ALWAYS RUINS THE GAME ?

Yes it would make sense, but just say I am a go ahead guy and want too move up the pecking order, could I not mark a Referee down,if they mark them I know not.But what I find strange is a level 5 asessing a level 4 Referee, what can be learnt from that by anyone.

i have noticed on my sunday travels, quite a bit of ref mentoring. it is quite strange it is not all about weather they get the decisions right. they want them to run backwards, straight arm. ref marked down this sunday, for starting 5 min early. coffee%20%282%29.gif

I would argue that if a referee is being correct in Law when dishing cards all over the place, then the players are the ones that should be taking responsibility for what is happening... rather than saying the referee is 'card happy'.

The referee can still use discretion for things like tackles. After all, whether a tackle is careless or reckless is down to interpretation. So a referee under assessment can still 'have a word'. Certain things are mandatory though. Player brought down and denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity: Want the referee to just have a word because everything has been peaches and cream for the previous 85 minutes? You can't pick and choose.

The assessor has to be announced because he has to be involved pre-game when the referee briefs his assistants. Team work is one of the criteria.
