Im back and last nights game

Recommended Posts

Hi All this is Steve Baker from Egham back on under a new account . Not been on for a while due to job change/change of email and forgot my old password.

Hence the new gold membership !

Having read the posts about last nights game with Chertsey i could not disagree with them.

First half we were excellent and should have gone in 2-1 up after hitting the bar just before half time.

However second half was role reversal and Chertsey dominated the majority.

The second goal was the biggest dissapointment as we gifted the ball back in our own box and were punished with a good finish.

The 3rd goal always seemed likely as we were taking a gamble to get back in the game.

The finish was diffrent class.

Overall i thought a draw would have been a fair reflection but that means nothing this morning as its about putting the ball in the net and not conceding soft goals.

My only gripe was the referee. I thought he gave us nothing all night and was very poor.

The first goal was a foul on our full back and how the Chertsey no.4 never got sent of for his tackle on Luke Muldowney after already recieving a yellow card is beyond me.

Even some of the chertsey players agreed he should have gone. The ref bottled it big time !

He also failed to see the chertsey forward kick our full back of the ball despite it being right in front of him. He gave a drop ball !

In a local derby which can be fiery you need a strong ref not another youngster who is being fastracked.

The overall game was very entertaining and it was good to see some old friends and faces at Chertsey. Shame the Guiness didn't taste so good after a defeat.

Finally i would like to thank "Charlie" the Chertsey supporter for calling me a wan**r throught the game whilst blowing his trumpet.

Dont remember you being so vocal when i spent nearly four years at your club were i put in a lot of time, hard work and effort.

Keep taking the tablets you window licker !

Cheers

Steve

Fair account of the game from what I seen. We were all over Chertsey in first half and they looked a very ordinary side.

Second half we went to sleep and seemed content to plod along at Chertsey's pace.

Chertsey only picked up the pace after they got their 2nd goal and at that point a couple of the Egham players lost that bit of pace.

Chertsey fans had a good sing and nicked some of our old ones, but you missed one....the wheels on your house go round and round.... ;)

From a Chertsey point of view-

We had a dream start with a goal in two minutes after our right back won a 50/50 and Page finished well. However from then on Egham had loads of possesion and seemed a yard quicker around the park but didnt have a solitary attempt on goal until the 40th minute. Despite being second best around the park we should have gone 2-0 up when O'Reagan did all the hard bits and when faced with the goal at his mercy screwed his shot just wide. Egham equalized when we failed to clear a free kick and the ball fell to Pommers and he scored from close range. What the ref missed was that he totally controlled the ball with his arm before scoring and admitted so afterwards as did his colleague (fair play to them) but the ref was blindsided and the lino the other side of the pitch. Egham then carved us open with a great move that saw their only other attempt of the half come back off the bar so 1-1 on goal attempts was actually fair but Egham were winning the midfield battles all over the park and momentum was totally with them

Second half was completely the opposite with us stepping up and not letting Egham have a solitary attempt on goal and only a double worldly from Gray at the start of the half kept it all square. Fifteen minutes from the end Treacher produces an amazing retrieval and cross only fro Egham to not clear properly and TJ scores in the corner. Egham push numbers forward and get caught for a superb third and game over. What pleased me most was we had so many players in unfamilar positions and youngsters on the park yet we rose to the occasion especially having been totally out battled in the first half. The fact that we kept Egham to a few set pieces throughout the game was testament to a very thread bare squad and although we only created a few more chances than Egham some fantastic finishing proved to be the difference and on goal attempts alone we deserved the three points. All credit to the Egham players of which many we know well as the game was actually played in a good spirit and I'm sure they will be out for revenge in a couple of months time in what will be another very tight game.

However I will also add to my opposite nos comments about the referee who just couldnt handle the tie. Far to easy to show yellows all over the place early in a derby that never really boiled over and this led him with nowhere to go by half time. Not only did he miss the handball for their equalizer but he lost control of the actual game. Numerous decisions were not communicated properly and on many times the players on both sides didn't have a clue what as going on. He absolutely should have sent my no 4 off for a second yellow but the reason he didnt was because 90 seconds earlier he had let an Egham player that was also on a yellow off with a final warning too-it was ridiculous because thats not how it works but by showing so many yellows(five in first half alone I think) he was walking a tightrope in a game that was very tough but never spilled over. I know there was an assessor last night and I wonder what he said to the ref at half time because in the second half I think there was only one yellow card compared to five in the first. Perhaps that is what caused the inconsistancy?

Still on to the next one and another very physical battle awaits away to Badshot Lea on Sat

Steve,

You gave as good as you got with "Charlie". I heard you tell him you would stick the trumpet right up his [****!!****] if he called you a w**ker again!!!

I agree with most of what has been said, Egham were strong in first half although O 'Regan had a good chance to score at 1 nil.

Bit disappointed at low number of Egham supporters that turned up, although the youngsters i spoke to in the second half were a real good laugh.

Cheers
