Mean while at Holloways Park in the ACYFL premier Div

A Fantastic win for the youth team .... Wealdstone had only conceded 3 goals all season and Slough put 7 passed them tonight !

Slough Town Youth 7 - Wealdstone Youth 2

Foggy here too..

report to follow on main STFC site soon...

Think we have to be a bit careful with Tony Mendy and possibly look to get him on the bench for the first team. Top scorer in this league last year and 14 goals in 8 games this season. Shows he has something about him and we don't want to loose him. Alex Wall was doing something similar for Thatcham a few years back, got snapped up by Maidenhead and now he's a regular playing conference south football.

The only trouble I can see with that is who would you drop from the bench especially with at least one more player about to join the squad.

At this stage of the season IMO we need as much experience as we can get in the team and on the bench.

Experience is only gained by playing football..at a higher level..if we don't get it sorted - Tony will be off ...He is 18 now and only will around with the youth team until april !

BTW 21 goals in 10 matches..

Chris, I agree but at this stage of the season can we afford to have a player on the bench to gain experience?

Also, if Tony is that good, or thinks he is that good, he will probably do a Mo Shariff and look to play at a higher level regardless of what Slough do with him.

I think, like Mo, the sensible thing to do is say to him you will be part of next seasons squad and play him in the pre-season friendlies to see if he has what it takes to progress into the 1st team.

Agree with Ian, lets see if he's good enough and he deserves a chance with that record. Bates said he was after a replacement for Sippo, so I don't see why that can't be Tony Mendy. Plus I think having Mo's freshness and youth in the side last season really helped.

Mo played barely any games for us before proving he was good enough for a higher level than Slough. I'd rather see Tony Mendy play a few games for us even if he's going to move on to bigger and better things.

If I'm not mistaken before Mo left us he had virtually cemented a 1st team place.

SB has also recently stated that he is happy with our strikers and that it's the defence he's more concerned with.

I haven't seen Tony play for the Youth this season and so can only base an opinion on what I saw last season and in the pre-season games that he featured in.

He certainly has the ability to go a long way and if his overall game has improved to the extent that he warrents a place in the 1st team squad one would assume Tony Tompson would have been banging SB's door down. Perhaps he has, I don't know. I would imagine only someone who's close to the Youth team like Chris Sliskie would know the answer to that.

I heard that Bateman doesn't really get on with Tony Mendy very much resulting in a reluctance to give him more opportunity. what the reason is not sure but yeah would be ridiculously irritating if next season Mendy is playing for Burnham or Beaconsfield for example and doing well

But I believe, whether this is more rumor than truth, that was down to him being given opportunities and messing the first team around.

Yes, I've heard this as well.

Apparently one time he never turned up at an arranged pick-up point, never phoned to say he couldn't make it and was un-contactable on his mobile.
