Edgware Town 0 Enfield Town 1 the Maradonna Match

This was a very onesided affair. I'm not boasting but the scoreline didn't really reflect the reality. ANY ESL team could have beaten Edgware they were a dream draw. We should have had 5 or 6 to 0, but allas it was a "Maradonna" match.

The ball was stopped a number of times on the line by the number 5 and others with their hands. Blatant handball which the ref ignored. Latching onto this myopia Kevin Riley chanced his arm twice Maradonna style and both times the ref blew-up so there was nothing really wrong with his eyes some Optrex would not have cured.

The player sent for stamping on Bradley Brothertons head was right to go, Bradley was obviously booked for letting him (Nasty bruise). I felt Bradley was a little restrained. Hopefully this is all part of the new Bradley. Bradley will miss the next round as his suspension starts Monday for 14 days.

The refereeing was poor and very biased in the secondhalf after they went down to ten men.

Great to win though!

Cleggy - u obviously enjoyed the champers before logging this report....

but agree a very one sided affair, in the first half

second half Edgware realised they were allowed to attack; but all they could do was hump the ball up field.

let's hope the draw is kind, anyone at home. shame it is regionalised, ETFC v SOUTHPORT would be fun

It's a shame to say this but the referee did seem to want to be the centre of attention as the gane went on. He started well but them seemed to loose the plot, especially when he and his assistants couldn't see eye to eye on some of the decisions.

The sending off of Bradley was a complete mystery. The ball was going out for a throw when the two players brushed into each other. No shouting and swearing for a free kick. No players getting out of their prams. Yet one assistant flags for a free kick and tow players get booked with one then being sent off to even up the sides. A poor show by the officials.

Apart from that. I saw at least 4 clearances off the line and one header hitting the post. A well deserved win with the solid defence playing some very attractive football. Cooper up front was always going to trouble Edgware and so it proved with his match winning goal.

Just a reminder that Edgware play in a division that is on par with ours so lets hope for an even bigger club at home in the next round. How about EFC?

Someeone mentioned not wanting Leyton FC! Let the football do the talking, that's what I say.

Can't say I agree with the comments about the sending off. Bradley Quinn had a very good game in his usual committed way but, like one of my other faves, Stevie Gerrard, Brad does need to cool down sometimes! He will be a better player when he manages to control that rush of blood to the head - and I'm sure he can do it! He was provoked and the reaction was probably tame for Brad but the referee was always going to look to even things up and was provided with theopportunity.

To be fair, I thought Jim should have taken Brad off earlier to save him from himself because the sending off was coming. The same things were said about our other Brad last year and he's clearly working hard, perhaps against natural instinct, to control that part of his game - and he's still having a fantastic season. We'll definitely miss Brad Quinn for the next round.

A great performance from the Town all round though - and I've no idea what it would have taken for the ref to award a free kick, or god fordid a penalty, in Ian Cooper's favour!

Once the ref took a dislike to Cooper, that was it...from then on he ignored cooper being chopped down every 5 mins, and even managed to book him 'on a trumped up charge'...and he turned a clearcut penalty against Copper into a foul the other way...we were never going to be given a decision in the penaly area,he missed 2 goal-denying hand-balls,he was even giving goal kicks when we won corners, by the end.

All in all,it was a good performance, but we should have been 3 0r 4 goals up,by the time Edgware started attacking....by not doing so we invited pressure on ourselves in the last 15 mins.

I think Jim's only mistake on the day ,was not taking Bradd Quinn off, when he was making his substititions in the second half....By that stage,Bradd was walking a tightrope, and you could see the ref was keen to even up the sendings off.

Two points on Saturday's game:

1) There has been a little critisism of the referee. On previous posts I have shyed away from having a pop at officials as they have a bloddy hard job to do. However, in this instance the little critisism is not enough. The ref was totally crap! In addiiton to three clear penalties not given he was whistle happy and didn't let the game flow at all. Andy was right, he wanted to be the centre of attention. This was the worst refereeing display I have seen in ages.

2) This was the first time I have seen Cooper play. He is a real class act and a major find for the club. He has pace, excellent ball control and a good all round awareness of the game. He also doesn't drift into offside positions, unlike Danny Clarke. I rate this lad and feel that he is more than an adequate replacemtn for Danny.

Nice one Cyclops - You like I expected a goal but he ref was to say the least biased and not on our side. Ce la vie

At the time I didn't even see it because you don't while the camera is whirring away, taking five shots at a time. Bit blatant though!

Another question: just how long was the second half? It must have been well over 50 minutes and the ref didn't add anything like the same amount in the first half even though that was when Graeme Hall got injured.
